Pirates....not the Arrr Matey!! ones from Gasparilla....Thieving Solami pirates...got another oil tanker. Thats two in two days! What do the oil companies do about it? Nothing...they pay the ransoms and pass the cost on to GUESS WHO??? Or sit and bleet like sheep that somebody's navy needs to keep the pirates away...at no cost to the oil companies of course... I've heard the argument that they can't arm the ships because of legalities when entering port...it is all a bunch of B.S. They can have a security detail that gets off the ship in international waters if nothing else. I am sure that there are plenty of imaging assets that can take a close look at the traffic...and pinpoint the position within a few yards (or feet) of any suspicious activity. This crap has got to stop. |

Agreed, with one exception. US Navy mission statement: The mission of the Navy is to maintain, train and equip combat-ready naval forces capable of winning wars, deterring aggression and maintaining freedom of the seas. Keeping the sea lanes open is their job. Companies that operate shipping vessels (including oil companies) should not be on the hook for this. They already pay most of the taxes anyway. |

A U.S. warship sank a pirate skiff and captured a pirate mother ship in the Indian Ocean on Thursday, according to a statement from U.S. Naval Forces Africa. The frigate USS Nicholas came under fire from a pirate vessel shortly after midnight in international waters west of the Seychelles, according to a U.S. military statement. The Nicholas returned fire and pursued the skiff as it fled, capturing it about 90 minutes later. Three suspected pirates aboard the skiff were taken into custody, along with two others aboard a suspected pirate mother ship that was nearby. Who said an armed ship is easy to take. http://news.blogs.cnn.com/2010/04/01/u-s-warship-c aptures-suspected-pirate-mother-ship/ |

Its amazing that a few hundred years ago we knew how to deal with pirates and now this. Sink em or catch em and hang em. then drop them and leave them to wash up on the coast for their friends to see. |

They wouldn't hesitate to kill innocent people, why should we hesitate to kill violent people? |
