Way back in October or November I know a dumb *ss who bought a large bottle of fuel stabilizer and winterized his generator, lawn tractor, and a couple other machines that probably would not be used much until spring. Problem is, he can't remember if he added the stabilizer to his Uly, thinking he'd probably take it out at least one more time before the snow flew. Problem is he didn't take it out one more time. Looks like the weather might allow him to take it out this week but he'd rather not risk it. I am ----- I mean he is ----thinking adding the stabilzer now won't unjunk the gas if it's already junked up. What's the best way to drain the fuel? Theoretically, of course Thanks | ||

Ride it. There is a myth that gas expires faster than milk. I had my XB sit for 10 months on the same tank of gas after a wreck, it still started and ran fine on the same tank I crashed with. | ||

Ride the damn thing. It's fine. If it's not...you'll know in short order. And you can add some fresh 93 from the pump and all will be right again in the universe. People baby these things too much. They're durable. They're tough. I haven't had my S1W (a '98, with a *carburetor*) out of the garage since sometime in December. The garage is not heated. I'd lay money on the fact that I could go out, turn the key, give the throttle five whacks, pull the choke, and it'd fire right up. I rode the Uly today, first time its been out in a few weeks. 97 miles on the trip odometer; its been sitting with less than half a tank, plenty of airspace in the tank to "spoil" the fuel. Key on, light out, start button, 2 cranks, LIFE. Idled like a champ while I geared up, and away we went. Now, weather like this with roads like we have in MD right now (nearly as much salt as a side of bacon), I'm not trying to win any races...but the bike ran just fine. It always does. All of mine do. I never "winterize" my bikes, and they don't complain. A battery tender...and they're happy. | ||

I have never used stabilizer in any of my bikes, cars, snowblowers or lawnmowers. They all fire up when needed. Not sure if its good or not, but i just fill the tanks to the top and tuck in the corner. | ||

Great news - thanks guys. That's a load of my mind I'm less than 2 miles to the nearest gas station so I'll top it off there. I don't do a very good job of using the trip odo so I have no idea how much gas is in it. I suppose I could get a new gas can and top it off before I fire it up | ||

I've had issues even with stabil. Nothing big, just every couple of years I have to hose out the idle jet with carb cleaner after winter storage. ( unheated shed ) Modern gas turns to varnish just as bad as if not worse than the old stuff.... But stabilizers do help, and if it starts, tank up with fresh and run it. You can be too paranoid. What gas "cleanup" additive works with Buell fuel injector systems? | ||

B-12 (at Wal*Nards) is good for Buell injectors. Seafoam is where it's at for storage. Stabil has caused problems for me more than once........neart burned up the log splitter with a "tight" main jet. Seafoam,or squirt the running engine intake with Marvel Mystery oil........or nothing at all...../ | ||

The problem comes from leaving gas bought in the winter all summer long. Winter gas has a lower vapor point and evaporates faster than summer gas. So summer gas will just sit there and look at you all winter long, then when spring comes around voom, away you go. But if you leave gas in the snow machine over the summer, well, it ain't gonna run right till you take those carbuerators apart and scrape all the green goo outta dem jets.... DAMHIK | ||
