I'm wondering if anyone here has a crossover design style helmet like an Arai XD3? I tried one on at the Minneapolis cycle show and it felt really good. I do wonder about the visor causing turbulence and noise. |

I have the knock off (AFX maybe? I forget) model, Dennis Kirk was closing them out for $80 or so. Below 70 or so windspeed, it's not bad. But if you have a headwind or are going faster, the wind drag gets to be a hassle. You can take off the visor, but then you loose the shade thing, which was the whole point of the helmet (IMHO). Also, the clear lens has a number of compound curves. They did a remarkable job of getting visual artifacts out of these, I have no idea how they did it, but there are some subtle artifacts left. I'm sort of getting used to them, but they make my brain hurt for a bit. Then again, many sunglasses, or even sunglasses behind a visor does the same for me, so maybe I'm just more sensitive to it. They look cool though. My kids call it "the Halo Helmet". And the shade visor part really does a nice job of cutting down glare without hurting overall visibility. |

Icon makes one, probably a bit cheaper than the Arai. |
