This winter is not unlike that of '77. I was working at a ski resort making snow in the biggest snow season ever recorded at that ski resort. It was in North Western Pa. and when we were done making snow in mid March, we had so much base built up that they were still able to ski into the first week of May, when usually we were done skiing in mid March.
I rode my snomobile to work every day, I just left my car buried for weeks. Making snow meant I was outside for more than 12 hours every night. One Saturday we could not even open because it was still dark at noon and the temperature was like 10F below with 30 mph winds. It was the only winter I never got a cold, flu, or even the sniffles. I figured my body temperature was so low that no virus' or bacteria could live in me.
I worked 12 hour night shifts making snow and then usually stayed to plow parking lots in the morning with the Tucker Snow Cat. It was a fun job that didn't pay well in money, but we ski'ed free and chased a lot of pretty girls around the slopes. Aaahhhhh I digress.....what were we talking about?
I'm getting into my truck and heading for Buffalo NY tomorrow. Sounds like another potential adventure on ice to me!

I just heard that the local schools are out again Thursday. Sounds like they are nervous about the buses running late in the morning because of the snow and it's supposed to be -9 and windy.

3 peeps,4 hours of pick, scraper and shovel work. I'm getting too old for this s#$t! Haven't been on a bike in 2 months! ARRGGHHH! Rant off, thanks for your time!
Blake, Used to be Peak and Mountain the sister of Peak and Peak, it was called Buckaloons Ski Resort(after the local State Park) when I was there.
Oh, for the record, I scored a load to Florida last weekend, so I took the Uly and got in about 180 miles around and through Tampa, St Petersburg, and across the Skyway and such. Nice break away.....I highly recommend it!
"Buckaloons", yes I remember that one too. Never skied it, but it was in the daily skiing/snow conditions reports. It was not as far west, so further from home for us.
I just got home from being out for a few hours (still a snow day for my job) and the major roads are still quite slick. On top of that many of the left/right turn lane are under 6 feet of snow. Just to make it interesting you have 3 lanes of traffic rolling along and suddenly either the left or right lane just disappears under 6 feet of snow pile for 50 feet. Lot's of accidents in my area this morning. I wasn't even out at rush hour!
Times like this I wish I had a decent camera. The road leading out to Hwy 120 from my subdivision is bordered with 12 foot piles for 3/4 mile. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow. It's like driving in the batcave...........
I must suck too..I'm sun burned from riding so much today.
Yes..........you do! I can only dream of 2 wheels right now. It looks sunny and beautiful. When you step outside it's 20 degrees, and there's a 5 foot drift in the front yard.......
A friend of mine is on vacation with his Lady in New York right now. My only question to him was,"Why in winter?". His mother bought him the trip for Christmas. I personally would have waited till summer. Y'all have a LOT of snow there right now.
Sunny and 54 for today, then it's more rain, then at the end of the week, sleet/freezing rain. We may not have tons of snow, but it's still been a harsh winter here. Spring can't get here soon enough!!!
I'll bet they have a spectacular time . . . I went to Central Park the other day then took a drive through Times Square to see how folks were handling the snow. It's fabulous.
Just got another couple inches here last night. It was supposed to be beautiful today, and it turned into a snow storm. Time to go get the Rugrat from Grandma's house.
I can deal with the snow, it can be shoveled no matter of much I get BUT Ice is a PITA, can't shovel it, plow it, hell I can't even meal it as there is NO salt to be found in town. We got a couple of inches last week and snow on top of that...Why'd I ever leave Florida?
But I'm hoping that by mid March I can get the bikes back out! I may be nuts but I have fun...when I'm not chipping ice of the sidewalk.
