Anyone know of any good online beef jerky sites that aren't $20-30 a pound? |

I think these guys make the BEST jerky around, but I suspect they're the ones you're complaining about in regards to price: http://www.jerkyhut.com/ Every time I go to Americade, though, I look for them at TourExpo. Gotta score me that Chernobyl Jerky!! |

I'm with Badbueller.Get yourself a dehydrator and try a couple of marinades that may interest you.I get london broil when it's on sale here at Bi-Lo.Sometimes I get the butcher to cut it,depending on which one it is. Every time friends come over or I go to the poker game I am always expected to have some beef jerky. It is really easy to make. |

You ever ride around Death Valley and you will be confronted by road stand after road stand of some of the tastiest beef (and other meats) jerky and other savory snacks. It's a very good bad habit. |

This is the best stuff I've ever tried, but it is about $20 a lbs when you order enough of it. http://www.crockettcreek.com/index.html |

2 recipes with ideas for making jerky if you don't have a dehydrator (Hoping both links work - the bottom one has weird space in the suffix): http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/bee f-jerky-recipe/index.html or: http://allrecipes.com//Recipe/beef-jerky/Reviews.a spx |

That Alton Brown recipie makes me want to figure out a good way to make "Buell Jerky"... find a good spot and approach on the bike so you cook during a road trip, and have a snack waiting. |

There's a place in Ohio around West Union that has some outstanding beef jerky. I buy a bag or two every time we ride by there. I don't know the details and don't even know if you can order it on-line but they do have some contact information. They run a bakery, dry goods and furniture place right there on the compound. The bakery is worth the ride itself. Fresh baked everything and it smells awesome. Here's some contact info. if you're interested. http://www.ohiotraveler.com/ohio_amish_stores.htm# bulk |

Reep - any heat is the enemy of jerky - 'cooking' is exactly what you DON'T want to do, which is why Alton's recipe uses fans and cool air instead of a food dehydrator, which uses some heat and does cook the meat some. Not saying it still doesn't taste good when you use a dehydrator, it's just not technically 'proper' jerky. Alton is an avid rider and has done some biker-frendly meals that I recall. |

The air conditioner filters were a clever idea. I suppose they would be non-toxic. |

I just thought that anything suggesting you can prepare food with a fan, A/C filters and a couple of bungees HAS to be good :-)! |

It's not too hard to make it yourself. I mean, if you're ordering pounds of it off the internet, there are other options. My mistress makes it, and it's gooooood. |
