OK, I bought a Harbor Freight bike lift table, and as other users have said, the wheel vice is a sad joke. I tested it by putting the Norton on it, and no way would that vise hold the bike up long enough to put straps on it. I want to install a wheel chock made for a trailer or something so that I can roll the bike on myself and have it stay in place long enough to strap it down. It needs to work for the M2, the Norton (skinny tires), and the Road King. Any suggestions? I'm also cheap and dont' want to spend as much money on the chock as I did on the lift, which I got for $299. Thanks. |

The ones sold at Harbor Freight have a hard time holding up my buells. Other national brand ones, you can roll your bike right in, get off of the bike and walk away. the ones from harbor freight, no so. first, it is hard to get the bike in and out of the harbor freight unit. then when you put it into it, the bike wants to fall over. Like you said, almost before you can put straps on it...... |

dward - our lift (Handee) has a different kind of chock, so I cant relate totally. But I do have two chocks in one my trailers, one on the other. Just an idea, this is what I do in my trailers (which have pingel units, great pieces): roll bike up, put kickstand down, attatch strap, push bike all the way (in case it isnt) into the chock and then tighten the strap (strap the kickstand side first, of course) works fine for me and saves me from spending 100+ on a condor stand etc Our handee lift is wide enough for my buells as well as electra glides, to put a kickstand down with zero problem just my opinions/ways of doing things |

I have two of the cheap lifts like you got, one i bought the nice cycle vise and mounted it to it. That works really nice but its not as cheap. The second lift i found a coupon for the harbor freight condor style chock. It was under 40 if i remember right and can be found in a lot of motorcycle magazines. I ground off the first inch of the table lip so the bar that has the two tie down eyelets was resting on the table. Then drilled four screw holes through the bottom plate of the chock and mounted it. Actually works good on everything except dirt bikes, but it will hold any bike nicely till you tie it down. As usual you get what you pay for. Just some options for you.

I have a Direct-Lift that has a very good wheel vice that will fit a number of front ends. I use it on an M2, a R1100 BMW and know it will work on the Commando (had 3 of them). http://www.derekweaver.com/update/Wheel_Vise_Motor cycle_Lift_Accessories_Product.aspx?id=41 (Message edited by edgarr on January 26, 2011) |
