Well... today was swap meet day!! I was looking forward to walking the packed isles of bike parts and HOPED to find a Buell diamond in the ruff. Anything Buell... T-shirt... sticker... I didn't care. I just thought the chances of finding something Buell related at a swap meet would be about nil.... I wish it was... I met up with a old riding buddy from way back and had breakfast. Shot the bull and headed to the swap meet. We payed our 5 bucks and commenced the walk. Old Harley junk was the main thing for sale. I did find a set of Joe Rocket gauntlet gloves for 10 bucks.. that put a smile on my face. Kept walking and looking... No Buell stuff... Then it was on to the next building... More boxes of rusty H-D stuff.. old oil cans... chrome.. and cheap leather... Kept walking... and there it was... a tuber frame and seat.. I thought.. COOL!! I found something Buell related... Then the guy started talking to me... "I've got a box of parts too... its from a chop we made" My heart sank like a rock... "I got some other stuff too" ... and then I almost became sick to my stomach. He had 4 tale sections... 1 from a M2 and what really made me sick... 3 from S1's I kept walking... but now I felt like someone had kicked me in the nads... A S1!?!?! not only did they chop a S1... They chopped 3!! I was BUMMING ...Turned the corner... and got kicked again. So now I was pissed and decided to head home... but it wasn't over... For $50 bucks I could have gotten a new dog...." "50 bucks... I'm gonna be here until they are gone" Not a care in the world where they went or how they would be treated... I just should have stayed home.... |

Did you confirm that ALL the tail sections came from chopped bikes? Thats really f**ked up with the dogs! Wonder if the ASPCA could have done anything? |

it is pretty messed up about the dogs... but its better than dumping them along side the road.. The tail sections... I don't know why else they would have had them... and when I said that I hoped they all didn't come from bikes they chopped... "Why not?" was his answer... |

wish the swap meet here was five bucks, its 13 for one day pass, 20 for two day pass. and there are less buell parts than that at the last one I went to two months ago |

From their point of view everything but the frame and bodywork is worth keeping. X1's are the only tubers I've seen in numbers. Seeing any other tuber model on the road is a rarity, so it is a bummer to see 'em chopped and scrapped. The best one was a dude telling me about chopping a pre-Thunderstorm M2 and bragging about the engine being the only thing worthwhile. Sorry bud, the engine is mostly standard Harley and everything attached to it was pure magic. He was a bit less enthusiastic when I explained the differences between the early M2 Lightning head engines and the other Thunderstorm models with bolt-in cams. |

Breaking up Buells has been a cottage industry for a long time. Pity, really, but we can't afford to save them all. |

I would have bought one of the frames to have a starting point. Time to rebuild. |

We can't save them all but for around $3000 we can save one at a time. In 30 years these idiots will realize what they missed. |

"We can't save them all but for around $3000 we can save one at a time. In 30 years these idiots will realize what they missed." NO they won't! If we have to explain it, they wouldn't understand. |
