And something just wasn't sitting well with me while watching Obama give his speech. I couldn't put my finger on it til near the end of the event. My wife even agreed with me for once which prompted me to ask if anyone else notices this?

The guy shows no emotion. Its always the same... 3-5 word phrases, then a side-to-side turn of his head.

And no, I'm not trying to start a hate thread, I'm just asking if anyone else notices this, or am I just over analyzing?

His handlers gave him the right words to say but didn't spend enough time in rehearsals.

Wish he'd seen equivalent value in the THIRTEEN lives lost in the Fort Hood shootings. But those were "just Military" and dependents.

Yes, I'm bitter.

Let's be frank here.

This is just another Saul Alinsky moment: he is the guy who invented "Never let a good crisis go to waste".

One of Obama's most important mentors.

Obama said "I want America to be as good as Christina imagined it."

Christina was a innocent nine year old girl, who has been co-opted as a campaign slogan.

Had I expected anything decent and honest from this impostor, I would have been disgusted.

"Let's use this occasion listen to each other more carefully."

The blatant subtext here is that " it's the saturation of our political discourse -- and especially our airwaves -- with eliminationist rhetoric that lies behind the rising tide of violence."

Or as the despicable Paul Krugman of the NY Times has written:

"Where's that toxic rhetoric coming from? Let's not make a false pretense of balance: it's coming, overwhelmingly, from the right.

If there is anyone to blame besides the shooter, it is the liberals who have made it virtually illegal to treat even obvious paranoid schizophrenics in the name of "patient's rights".

An now we will have to watch this offensive partisan spectacle replayed on the television ad naseum.

How pathetic.

The thing that I noticed the most is that it seemed to be more like a pep rally than a memorial. I was expecting something a little more dignified. What they did just didn't seem right.

This morning I read that Giffords opened her eyes on Sunday, not yesterday like Obama reported in his speech. Now if this is true why would he lie about something like this?

edit, meant to say: open her eyes for the first time.

He was lying to make a political point, and burnish his own image.

Just in case you have noticed, he does that every time he turns on the old teleprompter and opens his mouth.

aside from PRESIDENT Reagans smile and PRESIDENT GW's smirk when he'd get frustrated most PRESIDENTs we have had seem emotionless to me. That is how they are trained to act in front of the media.

Will give Obama a B+

OK to pretty good speech.
Showed more leadership than I thought he had in him keeping his supporters under control. Kept waiting for them to blow up into a Paul Wellstone frenzy & become a lynch mob but some how he kept them under control. - Did not think he had it in him.

His supporters creep me out more than ever

"and burnish his own image."

I'm thinking that he was wanting to inspire everyone with a remarkable improvement in her condition, but on top of that I'm thinking that he was implying that it was his presence that inspired Giffords.

Eric Holder and Janet Napalitano got the podium? WTF? There was no reason for them to be there except for political gain. I can understand Obama and Brewer but not this other glee club BS.

You weren't watching attentively. Bush showed much emotion when speaking of our lost war fighters. Tough to remember Reagan.

WE KNEW that the statements about opening her eyes were pure bullshit... but the puppies in the audience were lapping it up when it was served in their food bowls. We BOTH made the comment that we'll be hearing the REALITY of her "open eyes" in next week.

Cynical, bitter.

From what I have heard/read, this was more a pep rally than a Memorial.

There should be no politics, no partisan, no one party would have been better. It should have been about Memorializing those who lost their lives!

Disgusting. That's all I have to say about that.

May those who lost their lives RIP. May justice be swift and severe for the pos who committed these acts of violence!

I can't agree that past presidents have all been trained to act lifeless. GW sucked as a presenter compared to BO, but you could atleast tell he was human and wasn't afraid to show it. Clinton had a much better spark then BO has ever revealed.

I sincerely don't mean this as a hate thread on BO, just a mere observation that you would almost swear someone has him tuned in with a remote.

Oh, and an other question my wife and I were wondering...when they congratulated the persons that jumped Laughner, were they really the senior citizens? I refuse to believe there weren't more "smear the queer" participants.

I had the pleasure of working for Reagan while I was with The White House Advance Team. He took things VERY personal.

I'm still confused over what we did last night.

Getting shot through the head makes one a victim, not a hero.

I don't want cheerleaders with pom-poms, an ad agency quickly creating "branding" and a slogan two days in advance, nor blue t-shirts handed out to attendees at my funeral.

I'm old fashioned and hark back to the time when a mass shooting (I was a victim in what is still one of the largest drive by shootings in America) was a crime and not a cause to unite various factions.

Perhaps my favorite from this morning . . "if we had a good health care system, this poor fellow would have been in it".

I'm not sure what I think about all this . . I, based on my own experience, have a great deal of empathy for the victims. You have no idea how tough the next couple years in the legal system are going to be on those poor people.

One of the "Senior Citizens" was a retired 74-year-old retired Army Colonel Bill Badger .

He acted after he had been wounded in the head.
Another, as yet anonymous senior pitched in with a chair, and a grandma also got into the fray.

Of course it wasn't really a fair fight: they had fifty years experience over the boy.

Each.

I think most if not all in attendance were satisfied and touched but at least one persons speech. But you can't please everyone.... my take?... Other than the pompom girl screams from the audience,.. I thought the hole thing was perfectly fine. Some parts I didn't like... but it wasn't about me.

Of course like everyone else, I don't like the rhetoric, political gain attempts blah blah blah. I try to ignore that. Doesn't Obama still speak the same way as before he got elected. Not shocking.

I guess some people can listen without hearing...or is it the other way around.. or ..maybe it was completely over their head and below their feet??

digital,
I have no doubt he probably spoke the same way before he was elected.

And I don't have a problem with seniors standing up to this tool, nor try to discredit them, however I would sure as hell hope there were younger members of the incident that took to action as well. I guess my point was that as soon as the weapon misfired/jammed, there should've been a pile so huge on top of him that he exhaled his final life's breath.

To hand out t-shirts with "together we thrive"---Tucson and America, is tasteless!

Cheering during a memorial service is tasteless!

Using rhetoric designed to prop up failed policies, both from the Sheriff's office and the White House, is tasteless!

Reminded me of the late US Senator Paul Wellstone's funeral (he and others died in an airplane crash)---tasteless!

The whole memorial SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABOUT THE VICTIMS, not about those presenters at the podium. Absolutely tasteless!!!!!

There is something very sketchy about it All. Obama needed this. After watching some, (couldn't sit through it all.), of that "memorial" service, I'm convinced Obama and his people are happy for this "opportunity".

Getting trashed in Nov. New congress coming in, making a point to repeal health care. Low approval rating, loosing supporters. He is/was in trouble. He needed something, and something before the state of the union address, would be good, if not great.

Put me firmly in the conspiracy camp. Just all buying it all.

I only watched a few seconds. When I saw a cheering crowd it looked like a basketball game. I have no idea who's fault that was, but it was very disrespectful IMO. I watched a movie instead. I'm guessing I made a good choice.

My wife is Conservative and she was mesmerized by the BS. After repeatedly reminding her that this debacle was nothing more than a Democratic pep rally, she got it.

We switched over and watched "The Garden Weasel" episode of "The Larry Sanders Show, Season One" on Netflix.

Hey now!

You must realize, Barack only has one speech pattern. He is a one trick pony. You want emotion? He's got it, whenever he gets asked a question he doesn't like.

All in all I give him a C+ on the speech. You didn't expect GW Bush to orate like Clinton, did you?

The so called Wellstone memorial was an absolute embarrasment. Especially since the worst offender was our own Tom Harkin.

They won't learn because to them the Repubs are more of an enemy than our real ones.

It was a decent speech just as most expected. The sad thing is he comes off so high and in control but isn't smart enough to rehearse different emotion sequences so it looks sincere rather than the last speech he gave. There's no doubt though the president is good at speeches. Way to go man!
