...so I checked on 30 rd. AR-15 mag availability just for fun on Midway... Wow, going, going gone! Found some on another site and then got looking for a factory 30 rd'er for my Remington 597 found a only a clear but wanted black. I got scared, sort of panicy ...got a total 5-30rd AR mags and one 30 rd. Rem. 597 mag on order from 2 different places. I would venture a guess that all of them will not be fulfilled. Too bad one person can effect the freedom of millions of others. I still love my county! p.s. Is it riding weather yet???? |

I've been contemplating what would have happened had there been a limit on mag capacity like CA has. I think CA limits the capacity to 10 rounds. Personally I like my 9mm that can hold 20 rounds with a standard magazine. It's one of the advantages I see over having a .45. If that edge were taken away from the 9mm option, I would be more inclined to go with the .45 to really make every round the law allows as effective as possible. I doubt I'm the only one who would see things this way. So if the shooter in AZ had chosen a .45 instead of a 9mm what would have happened? I have serious doubt that Giffords would have ever survived a .45 passing through her brain. I've read accounts of people being shot in the neck with a .45 and dying of brain trauma from the hydraulic shock. I think in this case the outcome would have been worse, at least for Giffords. Just sayin'. |

New York has limits too. But again you are thinking like a law abiding citizen... The criminals don't care if they have a 50 round drum sticking out the bottom of their handgun. It would have only made this guy a little slower, but would not bother the real serious criminals (drug gangs, etc.). The mentally deranged would probably be a good reason because it would slow them down. |

I live in california. I know many people who have hi caps. The laws only apply to people that are not criminals. Btw it was illegal for.that man to shoot people and he did it any way |

He also, if I understand the chronology correcting, bought the gun illegally. He's had something like 15 brushes with the law, has a Professor who'd requested protection for just having the kid in his class and yet he filled out the ATF form that has all those questions. I doubt you can prevent these types of event through legal means. Hand grenades are illegal yet easily available. |

A ban on hi-capacity mags would not have stopped this criminal (or any other), nor prevented this crime from happening. If I had to choose between a .45 and a 9mm (regardless of mag capacity), I'd choose the .45 everyday of the week and twice on Sundays! Acuracy counts! It would be a fairly simple task to cut the top off of one standard mag and braze it's bottom section to another standard mag with the bottom cut off.Fiddle with the springs a bit and.......... instant hi cap. |

Update.... One order shipped today and no word yet on the other vendor. Actually I do not even own an AR yet. I have been doing my due diligence to get the variant that suits me best. I think it is going to be RRA for several reasons. I just did not want to get stuck only being able to buy a Kalifornification-style restricted one. If nothing happens, then I just got an early start on my AR gear. ...everyone seems to have a take on the good and bad of gun control. My thoughts might be, No level of laws or control will ever stop evil, misguided, or unstable people from creating this type of tragedy. The laws, controls, or programs that can do the best at reducing this type of tragedy is not at the device level (gun, knife, ect...) but at the personal level like family, friends, church, community, and so on. Detection, correction and support as tools. Some of these mis-directed people could be helped or stopped before a tragedy happens. But there will always be some that can not be stopped, regardless of the tool of destruction that they might employ. |

rock river is a really good mid grade ar. you won't be disappointed! one great thing about their guns is they almost all (if not all) come with a match grade two stage trigger. alot of people use them in match guns. i put one in my lwrc |

Hey Nuke... Thanks for the post! OK, so who would you say is the "high end" AR makers? I think I am zeroing in on a A4 flat top, mid length med/heavy 16" SS barrel, Wylde type chamber, w/flash sup., full float Al. handguard, adj. buttstock with rubber buttpad, 2-stage match trigger. |

lwrc is really good stuff (i paid $2000) pof usa, lmt and larue tactical make high end stuff. gas guns are cheaper and work just fine. the piston guns are relatively new and require less maint which leads to more reliability. stag, dpms, deltron etc are lower level. rock river, bushmaster, smith & wesson, colt make your mid level stuff. they all work fine though. to me guns are an investment. they keep their value pretty well. there are many out there i know i didn't list them all, just tho most popular ones (Message edited by nuke-blue on January 15, 2011) |

My last 10 30 round AR magazines were under $42 shipped, last November. My last Glock magazines, KCI brand, were either $5-$6 each. Don't panic and wait for prices to come back down. Look at AR prices and availability just afer the Obama election and now. |

Thanks Nuke and Roc! Good info... I basically paid retail for the AR mags I got and a little under retail for the Rem 597 mag so I didn't get ripped too bad. I am going to check into LWRC stuff and weigh the options. You are spot on with the RRA Operator 2 Elite. That is the real deal. Only thing you can't get with the $1,000 deal is the Wylde chambering. I really like the accuracy adder you can get with it. I may just configure the RRA Mid-length A4 the way I want it, about $1,250. oophs, could not help it, got a Beretta Storm compact "C" type on order. Seemed like a unique handgun that is overlooked and possibly under-rate. Bought sight-unseen, never handled, although I did handle the full size and the sub-compact. |

oh hey nine, also if you're lookin for long range accuracy make sure your rifle twist is 1 in 8 or 1 in 7. it will like the 69's to 77's much better. mine shoots 3/8" at 100 yds with black hills 69's and hornady 75 tap. and back to the topic of the thread a little... myself i prefer 20 round mags in my ar, you can get lower in prone that way |
