Anyone know about old DC/Marvel comics? Or just old comic books? Got some- most from the mid-1970's, oversized, DC and Marvel, most cost a buck when my mom bought them for me. Got the original "Shazam", illustrated by CC Beck, 1973. Seems I've got about an even number of these, half DC and half Marvel. Anyone hazard a guess as to rarity, value? Heck, they're from MY childhood... Still got boxes of old vintage MC magazines- I rarely if ever got rid of them- and a box or two of old comics. I'd like to donate the old MC mags to someone/someplace worthy. (If I had eternity, I'd read them all again, but chances are I won't.) OTOH, the literary mind, my own that is, was informed by ALL these printed words... Mebbe I'll keep them. |

I'd suggest you stop in at a comic shop and pick up a price guide, if there aren't listings for your particular comics a letter to the price guide should get you going on prices. I also remember finding price guides at the library when I was in my teens, haven't looked for them there in a long time. Shazam, that's too cool. I remember that character was fairly popular when I was five or six. |

I have the first 5 or 6 Transformers, wrapped in sleeves. I also have the first 4 Punisher issues, and the first series of 4 of Punisher. Just sittin in a lock box, waiting for someday. I haven't collected comic books in over 20 years. Got some gems in there though. |

I can help you out some. All pricing is dependent on condition of the book though. The Shazam (this is the re-introduction of the character) in perfect condition is worth around $25. If all the pages are there and the cover has no rips, you are probably looking more around the $17 range. Of course the trick is finding anyone to give you this for the book. Depending on the books from that time only a few have have any real value. If you would like to send me a list I could give you a price range. |

Thanks Hillis- gimme some time and I'll put a list together... Buggles- have you heard of Susan Coe? She wrote what seems to be the definitive book on Basenjis: "The Basenji- Out Of Africa To You" Traditional African tribesmen would put wooden bells on the dog's necks, so they could figure out where the dogs were tracking prey- I found that a small brass bell on the collar would help me keep tabs on my buddy- they're VERY mischievous!! There's lots of reasons my dog, Loki, has lived up to his name... Keep me posted on how you're getting along with the pup... |

Squids, Thanks for the book suggestion. I'll need to pick it up, I've been intending to go to the book store for some other books anyway. I've had other dogs, but it's been a while. This Basenji is a bit disconcerting, just that he's so quite. We've had him nearly a year and I'm still trying to figure out what he's communicating to me. He just doesn't talk to us like another dog would, ya know? We need to get out of our condo into a house so he's got a yard to play in though, we have to take him on several 45min to an hour walks just to keep him from eating the house! Gunnut, Those early Punishers, the re-intro from the mid 80's are worth a fair bit when in good shape. I've got a battered #1 that's prolly worth $5-10 at best. From before I did more to protect them than to just pile them into a box. |

They're protected. Wrapped in plastic with a cardboard backing. The bag sealed. They were put away with the knowledge that they would not be handled or see light for years. |

I have a couple of friends that are into comics, I never did get into them, or D&D. But we would all nerd out after practic at my friends house One of them became a graphic designer and had a font sold for oodles of money Another became a publisher of his own comic strip company in new york (Pork Chop Press - fat pigs on hogs ) The other became a computer programer and made entirely too much money off of Y2k and retired at 30 Me, I never knew what the f*ck I was doing, so I have been trying it all! I will be a thorn in the side on a national level because of this healthcare bill ! Damn these morons for not reading it. |
