A while ago, I posted a thread about the car dying, the bike being down, the dishwasher dying, etc.

The clothes washer died a few weeks ago, and on New Years Eve, our laptop died.

The computer is a HP DV9500 (service sticker shows DV9601US).

When you press the power button or the quick boot button for the DVD stuff, the battery button flashes three times and that's it. There's no change when trying to turn it on with the battery in and the cord plugged in or the battery out, but the cord plugged in. The computer will not turn on. I used a monitor cord to see if it would display there, but it doesn't change anything.

I've read that these computers have motherboard issues, but is there a way to diagnose it? I figure it's in the charging circuit as it still won't turn on when plugged in.

Looks like it is a bad motherboard from the results I googled.

Not sure how handy or comfortable you are with working on electronics like laptops.

There are several places that offer repair services on ebay. The ;inks below are actual replacement motherboards.

Depends on how much you want to spend.

Thumper,
I had the same DV9*** series laptop. HP had a campaign out a couple of years ago that was extending the warranty by 2 years on these models free of charge due to all of the Motherboard issues, think MAJOR RECALL should have been done. Anyway, I missed the campaign by 2 months.

Needless to say, it cost me $189 w/shipping to send the laptop to HP and have them R&R the Motherboard.

My son now uses the laptop as he paid the $$$ to get it fixed. It hasn't glitched yet in the last year he has owned it.

The ring on the A/C port lights up, but nothing happens...

I've had it apart for other issues, like the hinges, so this shouldn't be an issue.

There is a class action lawsuit in place against Nvidia for these laptops.
Check this link

Read all the info very carefully and check out the specific models.

My niece has one of these, I got it fixed once before her warranty was up. When it died again, HP would not honor the 2 year extended warranty they put in place.
If it all works out, she should have a new laptop out of the deal.. But, there's lawyers involve... they will get paid first and everyone else will get hosed.

I took it apart last night, board smells burnt. I tested it and there is continuity from the AC plugin to the board and then it's gone, nothing to any of the other charging circuitry that I can find. Buying a used board on ebay.

Thumper, I'm thinking maybe you need to step AWAY from electronics. Your aura fries stuff.

I know, the only appliance/electronic in my house that hasn't broken in the past two months is the drier.
