That's the problem the Goldwing faces. Everyone says HTFU, but the fact is with 2 people and gear it's 650kg. If you want to ride it like a normal bike and park on gravel for example, or just dealing to it while the passenger gets onboard - it takes a man, and a lot of him, not some old dodderer.
That Beemer does look nice. And is a great bike. I'd like to have one - if money wasn't an issue, and I already had a few others I'd like. For the money though I'd go with an XB12X.
DD, Having ridden so many bikes, what bike would you choose out of these. Given that you already had a XB12XT and KLR650. - Which I do.
I like the Triumph tiger and I can't wait to pop on the 800 XC and if Buell doesn't have a new street bike out next year 2012 I will probably end up in trumpet. But here is lil sumptin for you wingers out there I love this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtMEXD4hmKc
DD, I took my GW 08 to Buelltoberfest a year ago and ran it with a group of Buellers. You're right, it did handle fine... with me hanging off of it like a crazy monkey. I eventually backed it into the corner just after the one the crazy HD rider flew off of this year. I was way to hot taking that right hander and started to trail brake... lol or at least I thought I was going too and then remembered that the brakes are linked. Anywho, with Froggy and Chad Hargis on my six, I threw that damn GW into the hard left, put the knee way forward and then down and hit the wick on it... whatcha know, it did a full power, controlled slide, out and around the corner. It kind of felt like the old 928 drifting around the outside.
Again, I put a lot of miles in a very short time on the GW. The CP and I did a 44oo mile trip from Texas to California n back on it over 14 days. It was a chore to keep that thing in line when she was climbing on and off as well as turning it around at the top of the Hollywood sign in a gully of dirt and gravel, but nothing says I love you like a 48 point turn.
FWIW, I would have picked the GS as well. The GW is a great touring machine, it just doesn't suit my riding style.
