Honestly thought I would be married for the rest of my life, but my ex turned out to have insecurity issues and became her mother---turned mean when i could not understand what she wanted. She never understood that adage--you catch more with honey---. Tried like hell for 15 years to get it right but finally could not hang with all the abuse. And Zip, I am turning 58 in a couple weeks and you would be amazed at all the amazing ladies out there interested in us oldsters. |

Yeah Jim, I have dozens of single women as friends on facebook, and a bunch of married ones too. Some times,I think they "keep me in the bank",in case their current situation changes. The ones "that pass" are either not real interested, or simply too far away and not really wanting to .....in the end........moving away from family/career........and I'm anchored right where I'm at,forever. POF is choke full of locals. You'd think the whole county is over run with divorced women. I've done some medium distance dating and it sort of works, but it make realized that with my lifestyle, long distance courtship is pretty much out of the question. Someday..........someday,one of them will find me and together, make it work......... |

Wow Cityslicker! Man/women should have NO secretes between them except presents and surprises. Anything else is (IMO)cheating, one way or another. |

I've been married twice 1st time I was 24 and the idea was to fit the American dream with somebody I loved. Second one I thought was going to be for life but he was the only child Momma's boy UGH. Marriage lots of hard work and devotion, divorce is too easy. |

You know a man designed the stop sign. It says everything you need to know is one word. If a woman designed it, it would read "If you loved me, you'd know what to do right now". I think one of the reasons for the success of my marriage is that I told my wife right away that I couldn't read her mind. If I asked "What's wrong?" and she replied "Nothing" then I would assume that's the end of it. 22 years and we've never raised our voices to each other. Part of that I chalk up to her being old-school Japanese, not Italian. |

ah yes, the other side of the equation I dont think that I would marry an American, nor would I want to live in America with a foreign bride, I would not want to date, court or marry a woman that wants to come to America, nor would I date court or marry a woman that came to American and is just freshly divorced from her starter husband. If I were to ever get married, it would be overseas, to a foriegn woman, never to return to America. sounding much like Cusack from Say Anything |

gonna catch hell for this one, but I dont care A woman the world over will lie to you; how big a lie, how much it costs you, is the only variables to the equation. (not that I would ever go gay, but I am betting that being gay doesnt solve the solution about honesty, trust, deceit, or loyalty) |

"A human the world over will lie to you; how big a lie, how much it costs you, is the only variables to the equation." There...I fixed that for you. I am sure a man as intelligent as yourself didn't mean to generalize one particular gender over another. Here I am being female and all and didn't realize that men were such easy prey...and fragile. Sheesh. |

Yeah, I don't buy the woman lie bit either. I have a former friend who cheated on his wife twice, once while pregnant, she divorced him. He remarried (an attorney) and cheated on her with at LEAST three other women including traveling to europe with his new wife's kids and the girlfriend (with pictures to match). He even manufactured signed divorce papers to keep one of the women on the stringer. People suck, but not all people. Hell Slick, you're in insurance. Lies ooze out of your pores. |

And then there are children. A local child care center is adding on a huge section to their building.Seems like kind of a costly 'overhead' for a baby sitting service.............so I asked my insurance gal what she pays to keep her kids there while she works...........$560.00 a month! WOW! And this is rural small town Iowa. Hate to guess what it costs in bigger cities. |

ah Pammy, you are right, I concede (though I did address the men side of the equation in the parathasis, with the go gay remark) puppy for the win. (Message edited by cityxslicker on December 31, 2010) |

If you look at the costs and compromises of marriage and/or kids and cringe, don't do it. I'm in for nearly 15 years and have two kids. I wouldn't change a thing. However, I don't get much playtime or lots of toys. |

Why get married? I know why *I* got married... The love of my life, my soul mate, my best friend wanted to. It made her happy. That's the only reason I needed. It changed NOTHING else in my life whatsoever. I've never regretted doing it either. I am truly the luckiest man alive. |

Well said Steve! It did change EVERYTHING in my life, especially after kids. Very little "me time." I wouldn't change a thing. |

Funny, I have a 34 year old daughter who is absolutly beautiful, has her own hair salon, makes more money than I do, couldn't get married if I bought her a husband. She was married once to some poor sucker in the army for a couple of years, he was deployed for one of the years they were married. I haven't talked to her or seen her for over two years, not that I haven't tried but she is mad at me for divorcing her mother. I heard through the grape vine that her long term boyfriend broke off their engagement again. I stop by her house and leave messages send her cards and leave voice messages but she is just acting like a spoiled little brat. If you are a single guy and run into her, run the other way, she will bust your balls. The hard cold facts are some people are just not meant to be married, her mother was like that, but I stuck with her for 32 years trying to prove her wrong. I'm kind of stupid like that.... |

2 ex wives, got pretty much wiped out both times(2nd time worse than the first). Marriage is a fool's bet if you are a man. The courts suck and there is very little "fair" about it. Never again. I am too old to lose 75% of my stuff again. Not to mention my heart, not much left. It hurts to be cheated on and then to top it off get taken to the cleaners. Pure evil. I'll stick with FWB from now on. |
