I've actually lost about 12 lbs since last year. I'm on the verge of reclaiming a few pairs I held onto. Actually, some of my newest pants I bought with "room to shrink" are getting almost too loose. ~SM |

I have a drawer full of "wishful thinking jeans". Had dropped 30+ pounds in '08 by giving up soda...but apparently I have picked up the calorie count elsewhere, as 10 of those pounds have come back. I'm one of those guys that has a chronic 'beerbelly' and I dont drink at all... |

I'm 5 foot 10. In 2005 my weight peaked at 215. If some one told me to haul arse, it would take 2 trips. Got down to 190 and stayed that way for about 5 years. Then in Sept of this year my job moved to India without me. Been stress eating and not getting ANY exercise since then. In the last 4 months I've gone back up to 210. Joined the gym last weekend. By August 2011 I want to be 175. We'll see... |

3 things that have helped me: 1.) Oatmeal. Fancy organic stuff called Nature's Path that I actually find tastier than Quaker's sugar-laden junk. I've replaced 4 lunches a week with a packet of oatmeal, which cuts down on the calories (200 per 50g pack). 2.) Drastically cut down on the soda. Even diet ones. 3.) Exercise classes. I attend a kickboxing class and 2 work sponsored aerobics classes per week. The classes are fairly recent... just added them about 3 months ago. I know since I started the classes I've lost another 5 lbs, give or take, even here at the holiday season. I'm down to about 180 now. I'd be thrilled if I could drop on down to 165-170. That would be just about right for my build. I have doubts about my muffin top though... even when I was in the best shape of my life, I couldn't lose that! ~SM |

I'm lucky. Been about the same size for about 25 years. The jeans I have on right now are at least 10 years old! I got up to 190 a few years back, waaaayyyy too fat for me! Year and a half ago I was down to 155-160, too skinny. Being homeless will do that to you. Now I'm back at about 175 which is just about right IMO. |

Swordsman, It is really difficult to exercise away that muffin top, I'm fighting that now. I am 6' and 185, which isn't fat but I'm just ...soft. The last 3 years I have basically just ate fast food and restaurant food. 2 weeks ago I started a high protein diet where I eat 6 meals a day, with no carbs after dinner. I also do 10-15 min of cardio as soon as I wake up (it's up to 50% more effective then) and lifting weights 3-4 nights a week. I haven't lost a single pound and I don't really plan to, but I feel better, I have more energy, and I can already feel my stomach fat trimming up. It's not particularly easy but even this early on the rewards outweigh the inconvenience. |

Xbniner, we're just about the same size then. I'm 6' even as well. I tried getting up early and working out for about 2 months way back when. With my schedule, that had me up at about 5 am. Supposedly my coworkers could see a difference, but man! Trying to exert yourself immediately after waking is miserable! I have 3 meals a day, but eat small snacks in between (usually Special K snack bars, or fruit). I tend to go no longer than 3 hours without something to munch on. I should probably skip the 9pm one, but dangit, I can't sleep when my stomach's growling! ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on December 22, 2010) |

It sounds like you are doing pretty well then, waking up early is the hardest part for me too. I gave up on driving 15 min to the gym to workout in the morning, i just do situps or run at home. Just make sure your 9pm snack has as little carbs as possible. If you want I can send you a word document with the diet I'm following, though you seem to be doing just fine. |

I always buy jeans a little bit big and only ones I've throw out in past few years were ones I crashed in. Coudln't seem to get the blood stains completley out. SKinny jeans however...nope. Not my style. Need room for chain wallet, phone, smokes and knife. Beer holder would be nice. |

I can't complain too much reaching 40 and can't find a small enough "grown up" pants that fit well. It is a little embarrassing to go through the kids clothes looking for jeans. |
