i dont have any experience with dirtbikes at all (i've only ever ridden a dirtbike maybe 3 times, and that was just up and down the streets) with winter being here i want to find some sort of project. (my dad said i could rebuild his snowblower, but that would mean i'd have to use it once it was working...doesnt sound as much fun as a dirtbike) anyway, i found this on CL today, and its about 30 min away http://peoria.craigslist.org/mcy/2095328798.html i texted him, he said that he bought it off a friend who used it for racing, and that it has about 8 hour on a rebuild (I'm assuming its just the top end). it has good tires, good plastics, fmf muffler, new chain, and sprockets geared up on the front, but he has no title for it. i figure if he's taking best offer on it i can talk him down a bit, but compared to other similar dirt bike's i've seen lately 700 isn't an outrageous price what do you guys think about this? like i said above I dont have any dirt experience...yet |

No title = stolen? Are you able to run the numbers for make sure you're not buying someone else's baby? Personally, I bought two dirtbikes in my life. Both for cash and neither had titles either. I find it better to be a little pessimistic about craigslist stuff. |

Depends what yer using it for. Its a race machine, so the maintenance on the motor is high. It cant be registered on the street cuz theres no title, nor is it street legal. If your thinking about squirtin around the trails, track, and back yard, its a good deal. If you tard it, it will be track only. Thats a seriously fun little ripper there though! |

FYI. my 97 yz 125 has a very small power band...ride to make sure you like it..... It's too slow for my 190 pound but. |

Getting good time in the dirt helps you all around, makes you sharper on the street too... IMHO it's hard to beat a good dual sport bike, you can ride them anywhere... Be wary of "no title" fo sho... plus, the YZ IS intended to be a race bike. Highly strung, easily looped, especially if it has a 1/4 turn throttle- many bikes like this do. Find out who did the top end rebuild, ask for a parts/labor list if available. |

And you would be AMAZED at how much "yesterdays race hardware" depreciates. If you pay half what you think it's worth, you may still be over paying. To edgy and maintenance intensive to be a good play bike, too out of date to be a good race bike. A KDX is a great playbike, FWIW. |
