Does anybody know of any tracks in or near Nebraska to race on? Being as it's winter and winter means snow, I'll have plenty of time to finish everything I want to do to my bike and wanted to test it on a track but I don't feel like trucking my bike clear across the US. By the way, how hard would it be to wrap my pipes with that kevlar wrap without tilting the engine or removing the headers? This is an 09 XB12 I'll be wrapping. Thanks very much in advance. |

I'm surprised you haven't heard of Mid-America motorplex. Of course, they built it right as I was leaving Omaha in 2002. www.midamericamotorplex.com Of course, it's closed for the winter. But they have special bike open track days and stuff. |

I've been told it's possible to wrap your headers without rotating the motor down, you just can't get it all the way to the top on the rear cylinder. In addition, if you want to coat the wrap with sealer (I used it to make the wrap black), you can place some tin foil between the headers and the motor. I'm not sure how well it works, but maybe someone else will have some input. When I wrapped my headers, I rotated the motor and took the headers off, it's not that bad. I'm also in Lincoln and could probably walk you through it, if you want. I've got a service manual (for an '05, but it should be very similar, I would think). Do you know any good dyno tuners in the Lincoln / Omaha area? I'm rebuilding my top end right now (almost entirely new valvetrain, head porting), want to get a good tune when I'm done. I talked to Frontier HD/Buell about it, but they said they've only tuned one Buell and it was done with ECMSPY and took a long time. In short, I don't trust them. |

H-D Frontier didn't seem to me to be too into their Buells. I thought about having them wrap my headers but figured they wouldn't seem too enthusiastic about it. The most they've ever had on the floor at one time was three or four, and the only Buell I've seen in the lot belonged to the parts guy. Of course there's probably a half dozen or so Buells in Lincoln. As for dynos, I know of one in Lincoln and two in Omaha but the only one that I know that does motorcycles for sure is the one here in Lincoln. www.Dynosport.com, which is the one here in Lincoln. They actually have group discounts too so take some buds along. Otherwise it's 75$ for the first hour with wideband O2 and add 50$ hourly for tuning, 280$ for a four hour day with wideband O2, and 525$ for an eight hour day with wideband O2. This is where I'll be taking mine once everything is done that I wanted to do to it. |
