The Brutale wanted a stablemate worthy of her performance, and the Sprint ST was uncomfortable sitting next to a naked Italian beauty, so I slotted this in-between them...

Your Italian beauty is attracted to Mr. Peanut?

Heck no- she respects the performance, not the looks. And it ain't Mr. Peanut, anyway- it's Colonel Klink...

Initial impressions after 355 miles: Looks- love it or hate it... I hated it until I saw it in person, but now it's really growing on me. Any thoughts of aesthetics disappear when riding this bike. Ergonomics- amazingly comfortable... One of the most comfortable sport bikes I've ridden- more comfortable than the '06 D675, '07 RSV1000R, and '99 FZR600 I've owned, and comparable to my '03 TT600 (except for foot peg height). Engine- just incredible... Although I'm still limited to 9k rpm, it's obvious this engine is a beast. I'm amazed at how smooth it is- the best I-4 I've ever ridden. Power is linear, off-idle starts are easily done without the throttle, FI is spot-on, and the intake growl is as rewarding as the D675. Stock exhaust sound is actually pretty good- decent volume at idle and sounds great WOT. Transmission- excellent... Even though it's brand new shifts are butter smooth, no false neutrals, and I don't know how I've survived this long without shift-assist- it's absolutely brilliant! Chassis/Suspension- the most confidence-inspiring motorcycle I've ever ridden, period... The bike is light, turn-in is quick, front end feel is rock-solid, holds lines tenaciously, and power-on exits are turbine smooth with no chassis upset. It's the first non-Ohlins bike I've ridden that instills this level of confidence- very impressive. Electronics- great, as far as I can tell... As stated above, the shift-assist is truly amazing, but I have not tested either the ABS or traction-control features yet. Overall Impression- the next level of power, performance and refinement... This bike really is on a level above every other motorcycle I've ever ridden or owned (I've owned 30 motorcycles). While the MV comes close in performance and refinement, and exceeds it in build-quality, the S1000RR makes it so easy to utilize the incredible power and dynamic abilities- it's just a superior package. BMW really hit the target with this model, and it honestly is as good as the reviews say it is- I'm truly amazed. If I get the 600 mile service done this week, she'll be at Jennings GP on Monday- and a report will follow... |

Ahhhh...I picked one up in late August only in Grey. Amazing bike! I can't imagine what it'll be like after the 1st service and I get the full RPM range. It's an amazing bike! |
