Man-o-man. I used to day dream of jet powered RC planes taking off from the deck of my jon-boat converted into an air-craft carrier when I was a teenager.
Hey J2Blue,I fly all the "BIG-STUFF' and yes,we carry about 3 million in liability insurance. All A.M.A fields require it,and you would be a fool not to have it!!Oh and also they are not "TOY AIR PLANES" lots of full scale aerobatic pilots fly R-C to try new flight routines. To do it right and look good is still one of the hardest, most rewarding things I do.(It is alot easer to ride a bike at 150mph,then to fly one of these)

I would think the first requirement would be an eye exam. Wholly crap, you would have to have some self focusing super glasses to keep it in view.
Are those the type of engines in the manned wing that flies in.....Sweden, I think it is? Four engines, a fuel tank, and a wing strapped on his back. He was setting up for a flight over the English Channel with it. It was on a Discovery show last week.
I wondered what the actual use for the engines were. Thanks for posting that.

Seems like it would only take a few seconds to get out of radio range. Then what?
We had radios that can communicate to the Moon back in the 60's, a several mile range RC controller is no sweat, assuming you get proper FCC clearance.
He knows his stuff on the jets. He was doing development testing on jets for Yellow Aircraft when I knew him way back when. He always said flying jets really isn't that fun, especially the fast ones. You have to always be thinking way ahead of where you are at. Once you get behind bad things will follow. Real easy to get it far enough away that you lose perspective of the plane.
His SR-71 was a big plane. It sat in a cradle in his full size Chevy conversion van with the nose right under the rear view mirror up against the windshield and the back doors would just barely close.
He said flying an Ugly Stick was much more enjoyable than a jet. For those that don't know what an Ugly Stick is the name mostly sums it up. Personally I had a bi-plane fetish.
There are 2 different "main" systems for 2.4 and they have different schools of thought behind them
JR scans available frequencies for one with the least interference before choosing an exact channel
Futaba frequency hops at a fairly rapid rate, you could have interference on 10 consecutive "hops" and not even notice the hickup.
They are both great radios, but I worry about the JR having interference start after the radio has selected a channel and dedicated to it Is it smart enough to switch at that point?

That things flipp'n deadly. It has to be orange or some color that is highly vissible just to see it at those speeds. The fuselage must be aluminum to hold up to the stresses and surface tensions of the wings and body. One miss-step and someone could die..... if it crashed I doubt you'd find much, and if you did, it would be over a couple football fields length or more.
