Just thought I'd share, my youngest (15yo)is now a Life Scout, and Eagle Scout is just around the corner. Gotta admit, I'm proud of him! It is a lot of work, but I suspect he'll reach Eagle Scout before he reaches 16! His newest batch of 12 Merit Badges

Congrads, Eagle scout is a great goal, but I hope he is enjoying summer camp instead of turning it into a merit badge workshop. At the high adventure camps you learn more about your self and working as a team then in classes. |

Thanks everyone! I think the cool part is that he'll have a couple of years to enjoy being an Eagle Scout, before turning 18, instead of having to immediately move on to Venturing or becoming an adult leader! Crackhead, Summer Camp is a teamwork lesson, because he worked as Staff last year, and will again at Camp Makualla, at the top of the Cascades, where he was able to teach, as well as earn Merit Badges. He does have plans to go to Philmont in 2012, and if I recover sufficiently, perhaps I'll go too. |

Awesome! Congratulations! I thoroughly enjoyed scouting, I felt that I learned more in my years there than in school at that time. Cool thing is that it seems like I recall my scouting lessons, and make use of their intrinsic values, more often than things I learned in school. |

Congratulations! You see these boys that have gone thru Eagle Scout and they are really prepared for things in the future. I have several boys that did that kind of work, and when they went into life, the military, they were so much more prepared than the rest. ONe is an FBI agent now, another is a marketing business guy, Another in the army. They get back with you later and say thanks. When they hit the real world they know you have to work for what you achieve. One of the guys in the military got back with me and said the rest of the guys in his group had no idea. They always complained, etc. He enjoyed it. |

Fuzzz, Ahhh, staff that explains the 12 merit badges. I am glad he didn't live and breath merit badges for the week he was a camp. I have had to talk to an over achieving parent after I converted to "leader" at 19. Their child was 15years old and did 10 eagle required merit badges during 1 week at summer camp. He didn't have time to enjoy camp and be a kid there. I didn't have the chance to be on staff but my younger brothers where. During that summer they grew up a lot that summer. If you can't due Philmont, there is always Sea Base. I really enjoyed doing with my Dad to both but I defendantly want to go back to Sea Base. Are you going to go as a Unit or individually? |

Neil, It makes a dad feel good to see him follow through on that. My son earned his Eagle and I think helped him to be admitted to a small college and get a decent scholarship. I've been in the Scouting program for over 40 years now and I just keep finding something that keeps me interested. I missed out on going to Philmont with the boy, a big regret. |

I wish i would have earned eagle more than 3 weeks before my 18th birthday so i could earn some palms! and working at camps as a staff member is a lot more fun that being a camper in my opinion, you get more out of it! |

Neil: That is an incredible achievement . . congratulate your son for all of us. You have every reason to be "ear to ear" proud, that's a major accomplishment and the culmination of a lot of work. . . cooler still that you are so involved. My greatest respect and honor to you and your son. Very cool, Court |

Neil, Congrats to you and your son. Definitely a very notable achievement for him, and also for you as a parent to help him stick with it. I'm an Eagle as well, and was also a camp counselor for a few years at Camp Rodney on the Chesapeake Bay. Coolest job I ever had and also with a very cool group of people. The Eagle achievement goes a long way it comes to jobs and college, and the lessons learned in obtaining that rank will carry him far in life. Congratulations! Alex |

Thanks again everyone! Scouting is a worthwhile endeavor, and I am proud to be an "overgrown boy scout"! The lessons learned are invaluable, if the boys apply themselves. (I still pack my bike for a trip with the 10 essentials first, LOL!!!) Iman501, Over zealous parents can be a pain, eh? First Aid has been his favorite MB so far, interested in some kind of medical career. Crackhead, I was amazed at how much he "grew" over the summer, my little boy is growing into a fine young man, determined, focused, aware... At the moment, I recall when we pioneered a new Cub Scout Pack, the District Exec was looking for a parent to take on the job of Cubmaster, and the look on my boy's face when he said, "My Dad can do it!" |

Congrats! It's cool that he's achieving it so quickly. I attained Eagle shortly after turning 15, got a couple of palms afterwards. I never had the chance to go to Philmont, I came from a small troop, which is coincidentally no longer together (broke up a couple years after I turned 18). Is he a part of Order of the Arrow? His merit badge sash is covering where the OA flap would be. I always thought OA was pretty neat (I progressed to Brotherhood Rank, held a leadership position for our local chapter for a while). Overall, I think scouting was a fantastic activity while growing up and I applaud you for participating in it with your son. |

Congratulations! I, too, am an Eagle Scout. I received it just before my 18th birthday and enjoyed every year. This will be a great achievement for your son. |
