This is how we deal with Westboro around here. It is a good thing the cops were there to show the locals where Westboro people are to prevent a Dick Chaney. http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?subjec tid=11&articleid=20101114_11_A12_CUTLIN105145 Westboro protesters face jeers and slashed tires McALESTER - Members of a Kansas church that protests at military funerals may have found themselves in the wrong town Saturday. Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed. To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police. The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called. A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to Walmart for repairs. Even before the protesters discovered their damaged tires, they faced off with a massive crowd of jeering and taunting counterprotesters at Third Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks from the First Baptist Church, where the soldier's funeral was held. Miller estimated that crowd to number nearly 1,000 people, and they not only drowned out the Westboro protesters with jeers, but with raucous chants of "USA, USA." A few motorcyclists interspersed among the crowd also revved up their engines to muffle the protests. More than two dozen law-enforcement officers - state troopers, sheriff's deputies and city police - formed a security cordon around the Westboro protesters. "We're here to protect everyone," Miller said. Westboro members picket military funerals across the country, spreading their message that "God hates America" because it tolerates homosexuality. http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/be ltway-confidential/Telling-the-Westboro-Baptist-Ch urch-to-go-to-hell-in-La-Plata-108164089.html Telling the Westboro Baptist Church to go to hell in La Plata What do you do when the Westboro Baptist so-called "Church" shows up to demean a soldier during his funeral? When the hate group showed up at an Oklahoma soldier's funeral to celebrate God's punishment of America for its failure to -- what, put homosexuals to death? It's hard to figure out from their website what would satisfy them -- the locals responded by slashing their tires. This morning in La Plata, Md., the hate group's parade of absurdity received quite a response: More than a thousand counter-demonstrators showed up early, established themselves on the rights-of-way around the church, and prevented the "God Hates Fags" crowd from getting anywhere near the funeral of Marine Lance Cpl. Terry Honeycutt. A few minutes ago, I called Holly Smith, one of the organizers of the counter-demonstration. I was surprised to hear no shouting or noise in the background. "American flags as far as the eye can see," she told me. And the Westboro crowd? "They are up at a gas station probably a mile up the road, because they couldn't get any closer," she said. "We're in the shoulder for probably ten deep for at least 300 yards." Much better than destruction of property, and a template for helping the grieving families of deceased servicemen in the future. |

Sounds pretty much like what happened one county over from here. All the good 'ol boys lined the road in their four wheel drives (of course they all had gun racks, stocked as always) and four wheelers. I think Westboro drove through and yelled brazenly out the windows but never stopped. We have a LOT of national forest close by and it would have taken forever to find them. If ever. |

As a Gulf Vet and a dad I can't imagine anything more disrespectful. These people need to be taught a lesson swiftly and brutally. There is no excuse, none... Want to get real POed? Look into these idiots on youtube.... scary.... |

Whoa, Ft, we got another point of agreement. WBC is evil. Like I said on the lottery thread, there's a US marine piper. I'd love to see him sponsored to pipe every military funeral and drown out WBC. Slashing tires, intimidating 4x4, lack of co-operation are all wrong things to do to strangers but, for WBC, hey, I didn't see a thing. I'm putting these links on my fb. |

There will be a special place in Hell for these people... Before they get there, every chance we have as decent people should be taken to counter them, and given a better chance to REALLY put some misery on them, DO IT. I've always had an idea to "fix" someone who truly deserved it- go to a gas station by the lake, one that sells "bait and tackle"- buy ALL of their crickets and nightcrawlers, dump them into the car of the special person. What fun that would be... for Westboro or anyone else as deserving... |

Somebody needs to set up a website to post details of funerals or weddings etc, of WBC members so that they can get a taste of the other end of the stick. No shouting or slogans, just a few thousand people giving them the silent stare. |

I say go Dick Cheney on them! When Islam will speak out against the "extremists" I might start believing that the extremists are a small minority. |

Roadcouch, I'm convinced that's Westboro's problem in the first place. Leader is gay, doesn't want to be, and tries to overcome it with hatemongering. Kinda' like that neighbor kid's dad in American Beauty. I'd love to attend some anti-protests around here, if anyone gets wind of one in N. GA or thereabouts. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on November 16, 2010) |

There is one tomorrow in Pennsylvania. WBC is supposedly planning on attending a Soldier's Funeral. - This was taken from the Blaze.com Don’t mean to hijack the thread for a minute but I need to rally “Blaze” people from in and around NE Pennsylvania. The funeral for fallen hero Spc. Dale Kridlo will be held tomorrow morning in Pittston PA and the wackos from Westboro Baptist Church have announced they will be attending. SO WILL I !!! Please join us in protecting this hero who gave all to protect us! |

WBC OFFERS A $5000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE FELONY CONVICTION AND ACTUAL SENTENCING TO JAIL TIME OF THOSE WHO COMMITTED RELIGION-BASED HATE AND OTHER CRIMES AGAINST OUR CHURCH BY SLASHING TWO TIRES OF OUR VEHICLE IN MCALESTER, OKLAHOMA, ON SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2010. A condition precedent to claiming this reward is that the information must first be communicated to Westboro Baptist Church, Topeka, Kansas, so that we may promptly deliver same to local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. |

Those protesters wouldn't get 10 feet in SE WI. Slashed tires? How bout a broken nose? My younger brother served in Iraq, and protesters like this don't deserve the freedom that our Soldiers fight for. |

Actually Gunut if you lay ahand on them the police will arrest you. If the police refuse to protect them the police will face civil charges and lawsuits. The Patriot Guard seriously discourages ANY confrontational activity. The Patriot Guard seems to beleive that enough people show up and keep them away they can't get close enough to make their prescence known. Sooner or later they will tire and go home Besides the westboro group wants confrontation to help keep them in the media spotlight (Message edited by tom b on November 16, 2010) |

Those folks had a good idea by occupying the WBC permit area before they arrived. I don't care for any duchebag jackwagon reminding me about WBC's free speech rights or anyone pointing out the fact that slashing the tires were illegal. Everyone knows this already. WTF. Right so... call/write knock down doors of your Representatives and have them make a new efing law that prohibits any disturbance or protesting like this within a certain distance and/or hearing distance. Just like the drug-free school zones. WTF. Just DOIT. |

Government Intervention isn't necessary in this area. Continuity of Activists is. They are needed to do what they have been doing. If we stick together, be Responsible for Ourselves to do the right thing, now, the next time, the time after that, and so on...WBC will stop. It would probably thwart the next bunch of Imbeciles, who wish to force their wills upon Us. It's no wonder we are becoming a Nanny State. We WANT the Government to do everything. Why do we need more Laws ? For more Court's cases ? More Attorney's ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZjR8L81yQk |

Thats strange.. so you think voting to legalize weed (prop19) is ok but you think a law against disturbing the family and funeral of a fallen hero is ok and a waste of taxpayer money??? |

You are reading me wrong. I do not recall saying Prop 19 is okay. Did I ? I AM SAYING that Government will usually Interpret issues in the wrong way, and then take them to a level not asked for, or inferred. Is that what you read ? Your mistake. |

Xdigitalx - If you believe I am a Stoner, Hippie, Whatever, you are very, very wrong. If you happen to think I am of the belief that America is made up of Strong Representatives, as opposed to Strong Citizens, that's your mistake. no I didn't read you wrong. I was just using prop 19 as "an example" of a proposed law.... like many other that can be voted on. Make the law... then no more WBC at funerals. Let them go anywhere else to protest, just NOT near, at or around the funeral or anywhere near them. |

In Kansas there is a law preventing from being within 50 yards from the property that a service is being held. Doesn't do much but provide a wide buffer between patriot guard a westboro idiots. |

xdigitalx: I'm probably going to get into trouble again but what the heck… Here's your mistake: the US Constitution provides fundamental, essential liberties. They are things like the right to protest, the right to public assembly, the right to move freely and the right to due process. PAUSE. All the US laws are based on US Constitution. No law can go against it. One might disagree with a law but learned people have made a judgement based on that Constitution. Future rulings might change a law but they can't change the US Constitution. PAUSE. What you propose goes against the Constitution since your plan violates most of its principles. PAUSE. In this context, there is no connection between a lower level proposal about legalizing marijuana and the very top level prohibitions you suggest. PAUSE. Possible real plan: plan ahead. Tom b is giving good advice. Most people are not trained to look at disruptions and protest. Quite often, the police are your friend, they don't want unrest but they have a law to follow. Help them find another law to follow, look in the books. You have to have judges ready to put in injunctions: not part of your usual funeral arrangement. |

Tom b : I think should be at least 1000 yards. There are laws everywhere that infringe on peoples rights. Is there an actual written law that says I cannot take a dump in the ladies room? If there is... it wasn't allways there. There IS a law that says I cannot smoke in my car in a hospital parking lot... 50 yards from the building and no where near any other people. WTF? (I quit 2.5 trs ago) It wasn't allways there. Can I protest the Drug-free school zone's with signs that say stuff like: "Drugs are good", "Teachers smoke weed", "Getting high is KOOL", "Beavis for president!!" etc etc. Probably if I was an idiot. (if you happen to get stopped in a drug free zone and you have weed or drugs you will be totally screwed... even if it's 3am) But the drug free zone wasn't allways there. Some one decided it should be written. Make the permits for protesting fallen service members cost 100x more, only usable after 5pm and location has to be more than 5000 yards from any funeral service. (or just no where near it) There are other laws that were written like this...that weren't allways there. Do not say it cannot be done. It can and you know it. |

"Sgt. Jason James McCluskey" was one of the paratroopers that was in my previous unit that I got a call about last week. I am glad to hear that the WBC was not welcome to his funeral. I hope they remain unwelcome at other funerals. God Speed Airborne! |
