My Dad was a drill instructor in the early 50's. Only natural that I would go Corps too. I think the day I joined was one of the proudest days of both of our lives. Semper Fi Pop. Happy Birthday Gyrenes.

On 10 Nov 1775 the Continental Congress resolved.
"That two battalions of Marines be raised consisting of one colonel, two lieutenant colonels, two majors and officers as usual in other regiments; that they consist of an equal number of privates with other battalions; that particular care be taken that no person be appointed to office or enlisted into said battalions, but such as are good seamen, or so acquainted with maritime affairs as to be able to serve to advantage by sea."
.Later that day, Robert Mullan, a Philadelphia businessman, established the first Marine Corps Recruiting Station, appropriately, in his bar, the Tun Tavern. What followed is 235 years of "heart breakin' and life takin'" tradition, which some say has been unimpeded by progress.
To my fellow Marines, particularly those of you deployed to the far reaches of the empire, as I pause tonight to celebrate the glory of our Corps I will raise a toast to you and to those that have gone before.
To my family and friends of the Corps, sleep peaceably in your beds tonight knowing that your Marine Corps stands ready to do violence on your behalf.

Just got this email from a fellow Tracker... thought I would share
Devil Dogs we are part of something that is bigger than us and not truly appreciated by those who do not understand. I’m sitting at Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE surrounded by many people who have no idea of the sacrifices that other folks make on their behalf. I am so proud to have been a Marine. I am proud to claim that we have existed 235 years. Too many people don’t get the history and traditions of our Corps. They are too wound up in themselves to have made the sacrifices we did to do what many of us were able to do in our time as active duty Marines. No matter what happens to us in life we will always be Marines. Not one person can take the title we have earned and the haters can go themselves for hating because they had the chance to join and ran like hell when the Marine recruiter showed up at their door step.

Happy Birthday to all my fellow Marines. 235 years
The United States Marine Corps, with its fiercely proud tradition of excellence in combat, its hallowed rituals, and its unbending code of honor, is part of the fabric of American myth.

The BEST, and worse years of my life. I could not have survived Bosnia, Kosovo without the Marines I was attached to. Some of the most hellish sights to ever have to inspect and verify; and when you have to shoot back, you want a Marine by your side doing it. Semper Fi, Happy Birthday UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS!
And thanks for the Trip to Quantico OCS to prove I was an old man, Crucible 1998, victim 28. Hold em High at 8th and I.
If Ossetia gets hot, see you back in the thick of it again.
