Gotta go watch 'Men In Black' again tonight. I might have missed some "real" clues. |

I saw a military analyst talking about this. He made a pretty convincing case for it being a missile. Pointed out the course correction early in the launch when the guidance system kicks in. Explained how with it traveling away from the camera you wont perceive the continued acceleration. It sure looks like it's going vertical to me. YMMV. Buellbozo, love the pics! |

why is the video so short? You'd think a real journalist would've kept the camera on that thing until it was out of site. Now, if it goes overhead, you know it's a plane, if it keeps going up or away, then it MIGHT be a rocket. Maybe the vid was cut short, just to create a media sensation? The rocket theories are more" fun", though. |

The lack of clear answers is more fun. No rocket dismissal from the experts, no plane identification from the experts, no nothing nowhere. No assurance that the missile defence system still is working. I miss the old days, remember them? (I wanted to post a clip of M saying that but I couldn't find one.) Intelligence knew how to answer these questions back then. It was either silence or a weather balloon. In the late 1950s my uncle "disappeared" while in a combat zone. No report came to the family relating anything about his "disappearance". In the late 1990s, my aunt got a Christmas card from him. He was now a retired officer and everybody just picked up from where they left off. That's the way you do it. |

From GlobalSecurity.org:
quote:The mystery contrail is obviously an airplane. The aircraft is flying towards the observer. The air over the Pacific is clear, so the contrail is visible all the way to the horizon. This creates the optical illusion of a rocket flying up, rather than the actual situation of an airplane flying horizontally. The conditions are unusual, in that the contrail is unusually persistent, and it is being illuminated by the setting sun. The object generating the contrail is moving too slowly to be a rocket. The contrail is not expanding as the "rocket" gains "altitude" - which would be the case as the exhaust plume expanding into less dense high altitude air. The only mystery here is why all the King's horses and all the King's men cannot produce a single person to explain these obvious facts. And you wonder why the War effort falters at times, and why the Tea Baggers think our taxes are being wasted. "The Daily Show" added a couple of new details. The helicopter pilot who made the video said the object rose into the sky from "beyond" the horizon, as would be expected from an airplane. Most importantly, he stated that the apparition lasted for about ten minutes. The largest liquid propellant rocket would have a powered flight phase of about five minutes, a solid propellant ICBM would have a three minute boost phase, and smaller rockets would have a shorter period of powered flight.

Global Security: and the jet has been identified as… oh, wait, the jet has not been identified. Well, I suppose an unidentified jet flying through US airspace is a safer thought than the missile one. Except that a jet can carry quite a lot of artillery so I don't see how that option is particularly soothing. |

Lack of clear answers can be fun, admittedly. For some folks like me, repeating myself is sometimes entertaining. I haven't heard anything from anybody that makes more sense than it being a scramjet test. It coulda been missile launched, it coulda been Aurora launched, it coulda been missile launched from an F15 or F22 at 60,000ft. There may have been a malfunction of either the launch vehicle, or the test vehicle. I have no idea. The scramjet technology will someday provide low space civilian travel at speeds like NYC to Tokyo in 90 minutes. One of it's issues is that it has to get going about 4000mph+ just to light off in thin air. I won't live to see it, but some of you will. I'll buy any BadWebber who can come by a cup of coffee if I'm wrong on this one. I often am. Now, it's 65 degrees out, headed for 80, I think I'll get off this damn computer and go ride my BUELL! Peace Out, Ya'll. |

You people need to get out more and READ. The same contrails have been caught on traffic cameras and are regularly scheduled airline flights. Right image is the "Mystery Launch" - left image is America West flight 808 taken from the traffic web cam 24 hours later.
Why the F should the government comment on every freaking non-issue just because some ignorant person or people "think" it is a critical issue? You will note that the Government is NOT commenting on the appearances in Las Vegas of somebody who appears to be Elvis Presley? Conspiracy and cover-up I tell you! Elvis is secretly working at the nearby Area 51 - and THAT is why the Government is covering up the Elvis sightings! |

Oh, come on! you expect us to believe that? What propaganda group in the shadow government do you work for? Never mind, I know they'd fry your brain with disco rays if you admitted the truth. Elvis is in Minnisota. The Vegas ones are cover stories so he can travel. Area 51 is just a flight test base, and the aliens are at area 52. The contrail? could be an airliner. Probably not alien. Bet you it's man made, since it's not a normal cloud thing. Flying saucers, they are normal cloud things.

Read "Chariots of the Gods" by Erich von Daniken. |

Von Daniken is fun to read, but ignores some simpler explanations to make his point. For example, all you need to explain the figures on the plains of Nazca is the belief that some da Vinci among the natives figured out how to make a hot air balloon. All you need is cloth, rope and fire. If I can fly with an old pool cover and closet poles..... and I have, so could they. So far we have a few major explanations. in no order. 1. Airliner contrail. 2. Chinese sub launched missile. 3. U.S. military missile. 4. Private missile launch. 5. Terrorists practicing with a Stinger ( or other make SAM ) Is that about it? I still haven't seen the full video. A still photo "could" be any one of those because there is no context. There are logical arguments for & against all of them. Consider... trust/distrust of Govt's honesty. The certain knowledge that the U.S. Military may deny a launch, but has no real reason to. The current tensions between the U.S. and China, and the periodic and current slaughter of people to get concessions from N.Korea. It's unlikely that any private firm would do an unauthorized water based launch, since they stand to make more in publicity from a quiet but cleared one. ( also the location is an insurance & publicity nightmare, so off baja is more likely ) Most people who launch rockets have a pretty good idea how far away you can see them from, but terrorists might not. Over to you. Btw. still photo's don't do justice to those lenticular clouds. They are the moisture in fairly high speed laminar flow air as it bounces over hills and valleys. As the air is pushed up to the exact temp. & pressure, the moisture condenses and evaporates on the way back down. They form at lightning speed on the leading edges and dissipate like ghosts on the trailing. That pic of Fuji is awesome, I want it as a wall poster. You can see the standing wave/shock cone so clearly. |
