Hey all- I was out running around yesterday, saw USA Today's front page, there was a piece about Conan O'Brien getting back in the saddle on TBS tonite- anyone besides me think this is GREAT news? I've ALWAYS been a fan, hated to see what Leno did to him, and hope he does well in this new venture... My only problem: Don't have cable or satellite. Just the little digital converter box... which is usually fine for mine and my GF's need for the boob tube. Anyone guess as to how easy it might be to grab these shows "after the fact" on my laptop? |

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Late night is dead regardless of who's hosting. Used to be a huge Dave fan, but that ship sailed long ago. He's just a bitter old guy who isn't very funny. There was only one Johnny. Everything else is just a dim facsimile. |

86129squids: you can catch past shows if you want to buy them at the Apple store. I believe you can get just about anything there and then you can watch them on a I-pod or your PC or Mac! |

I always loved CO's broadcast TV parting shot at NBC [& JL, natch] - it goes something like, ".....Kids, America is a great country, one where you can have a dream & pursue it to success. You can do anything that you want to do - unless Jay Leno want to do it....." |

OMG!! I made a point to watch as many of his last "Tonite" shows, just to see how many shots he'd take at NBC and Leno... Even brought back the Masturbating Bear!! I agree that they broke the mold after Johnny Carson- he had the most intelligent, well-rounded approach to all his guests, only rarely did he really get his weird on... I should watch more of Jimmy Kimmell- I miss his "Man Show" days... "ZIGGYZAGGI ZIGGIZAGGI OY OY OY!!!" |

Awww, c'mon, guys- don't tell me everyone's sense of humor died in the 80's!! There were many more "greats" back then than now, but by God I try to find the funny things in life every day, if possible... Laughter helps to keep you young!

I really don't see what you people saw in Carson. After his death, Leno did a tribute show, showing some old clips, and I almost fell asleep. I ended up shutting the TV off early. Go CoCo! |

"I really don't see what you people saw in Carson. After his death, Leno did a tribute show" There ya go. "showing some old clips, and I almost fell asleep. I ended up shutting the TV off early." Leno showcasing Carson, despite the legacy of being the new host of the show, is a crying shame. How old are you, Frogs?} |

Well I think old music like the Beetles suck, so we are even Even??? I could care less if you like the Beatles. You asked why and I gave you a reason why. Its a generation barrier. Funny thing is the older I get the more I enjoy alot of 60's and 70's TV and music that I was quite young those days to enjoy thoroughly. Kinda like coffee, green veggies, whiskey are aquired tastes. Your young you'll get there. One day your piss will smell. |

I may be old but at least I can remember the Beatles when they were current. RE: Bads1's comment: I really didn't get the '40's swing thing until the '80's. There is time for you yet Froggy. Call me when you turn 40 & we can talk (If I am still sentient) Later, Chris C |

The thing about the younger folks not "getting" Carson, and what he was, is that they have little idea who his guests were. His talent laid in playing into what his guests could help him bring to his audience. When they would announce on Friday night who the next weeks guests would be you would know what nights you did not want to miss. |

The Beatles find fans of all ages. I went to an Aerosmith concert a few weeks ago. Brought my kids. They were laughing and pointing at all the 60 year old women in 30 year old concert shirts dancing their fool heads off and generally rocking it. God I feel old. All the bands I like have members who are in their 60s. REALLY good concert by the way. Steve can still hit 'em after all these years. |

The sad thing is that neither Leno nor Conan can hold a contemporary candle to Johnny Carson as a contemporary. |

The whole late night talk show concept is anachronistic. With 24hour news cycles and internet streaming, who really watches evening news. I haven't had live TV for three months. I watch NetFlix or live stream what I want (or read). I've seen 6 whole commercials in that time. It's wonderful! Conan, Jay, and Dave are fighting over who gets to be the king of the melting iceberg. |

For my money, it was Steve Allen. That guy was a genius (as in real smart AND funny). I can remember my older brother & I sneaking into the living room after everyone was asleep and watching with the sound turned real low. But we always ended up getting busted when we laughed so hard. |
