I know it's claimed that it's conservatives that want to control us, but... Law curbs McDonald's Happy Meal toys |

i didnt read the article, but i did see a little segment on the news about this tonight. i think its a good idea. i mean the kids end up playing with those toys for the length of the car ride home, and the way obesity is going with young kids today, it might actually help a bit... |

I am opposed to the toys, because there is no nutritional value to them and no matter how much dipping sauce I put on them, they dont go down well. |

Uummm, Iman, to most of us you are a young kid today. Let me guess, your parents probably made you go outside and play and didn't take you to McDonalds every day, just like I've done with my kids. Am I right? Even close? You can't legislate stupidity or laziness, believe me I know first hand. McDonalds (and next it will be Wendy's, then Burger King, then Sonic and Rally's) is easy, lots of parents are lazy and just run through the drive thru and get dinner. To paraphrase the pastor's message from Sunday, we've washed our hands of the sick and downtrodden in our communities and would rather pay a tax and let the government deal with them then sit back and complain about big government. I know about this first hand too. People are only going to do what you make them do. I know this isn't true of everyone but it is in my job. I honestly couldn't care less if they had a toy or not, it would probably make my life easier not having to hear, "can we go to McDonalds" every time we drive by it. (and I say no waaaaay more than yes) |

Hey im old enough to vote and go to war!....but yes my parents made me play outside when i was little haha, heck i never had video games or anything like that when i was little....i still dont, but thats bc i have better things to spend money on. If mcdonalds is trying to make our nation take a step in the right direction by making kids eat healthy thats good. Its sort of the same thing when they got rid of the "supersize" size on the menu's |

I think it is a good idea that motorcycles are banned because they are dangerous. There are people who agree with me. Iman, please think about what you posted a few doors north of here. |

So iman...
quote:i think its a good idea. i mean the people end up wrecking those sportbikes, and the way medical costs are going with people today, it might actually help a bit...
This isn't a question of if happy meals are a good idea or not, it is a question of if it should be legal to sell one. By that exact same logic, your motorcycle should be illegal. |

Does your 7 year old know the concequenses of eating unhealthy all the time?... I didnt know anything about bikes b4 i started riding, i knew i wanted a SB, but being 16 and living at home my parents wouldnt let me start on one, so i rode the transalp for like 15k before i was allowed to get my own bike... I still stand by what i said, kids like their happy meals bc the greasy food tastes good and is addictive, and the toys look cool. They dont sit and think about how many cal. They are taking in. So if i wasnt limited on what kinda bike i was allowed to have i probably would have crashed a long time ago, due to to much bike. Kids should also be taken better care of as far as what they are being fed, if the parents allow it then why should the kid question it?... The problem is parents are lazy, and just hit the drive through so they dont have to prepare a healthy meal when they get home |

And as i understand it they arent illegal, u just have to order one with less than 600 cal. (or w\e the number is) to get a toy. So unless ppl r going to a restruant to buy toys, i dont see the big deal, like i said, the kids only care about the toys for about 25 minutes. |

Imam, I don't think you should be allowed to have a vehicle with less than four wheels or one with a motor making more than 40 horsepower. I don't think you fully understand the ramifications of your decisions in riding one. It should be illegal for you to own one.

Iman, It isn't McDonalds initiating the ban on toys in Happy Meals; they oppose it and are fighting it; it's the control freaks in the San Francisco gov't telling McDonalds what they can and cannot offer for sale. Freedom beats good intentions every time. |

People in this country have got to get a grip... people always end up debating the details of ridiculous legislation such as this without ever pulling back to see the real problem, the fact this legislation was even brought up is ludicrous. Every single little law like this takes away our freedom, albeit something a small freedom but a freedom nonetheless. Each one they pass makes it easier to pass the next one. It's basically baby steps. Take smoking for example. It started with smoking/non smoking sections and it worked for decades. Business owners adjusted the sizes of their smoking/non smoking sections according to the demands of their customers. Eventually laws were passed stating you can't smoke in certain types of businesses or places that get 'x' percent revenue from food etc. Then it went farther and now they have passed laws regarding smoking which go against the rights of the business owner to choose how they operate what they rightfully own. Every time we swallow a behavior control law such as this happy meal fiasco we allow the gov't to take another baby step. What would be the next step? Will they limit the caloric content of a meal per person and not allow a customer to order it if it's too high in fat or sodium? It's so silly it almost sounds like a whacko conspiracy theory but in reality isn't that what's happening? We could examine a multitude of topics from gun legislation to 'drug' control policy or maybe discuss the illegality of appointed gov't agencies enacting law or taxation. Point being, each trail leads to the same end, the gov't is out of control and shows no signs of changing. Of course we do have to take some of this responsibility onto ourselves because we are the voters and if we had any collective b*lls we would vote every one of these idiots out of office but we do not. With that in mind who should we really be mad at?...the gov't we put in place or ourselves because we won't do anything about it? superdave |

Now I agree with the non smoking if you serve food and is a majority of your revenue. But a tavern/bar/lounge is not the place to do this to. What has done here in Wisconsin is hurt the tavern and liquor and beer business by 30% and even more for alot. Its even created more problems for neighbors and the police of the communities. |
