Is a Tea Bagger the same thing as a conservative? They seem a lot closer to the lunatic fringe to me than a 'conservative'.

The Tea Party is conservative. Republicans not as much. They believe in limited government as defined by the constitution and the lower taxation that should naturally follow. Could you explain how you see that as being lunatic fringe?

Thank you Sifo, I was going to post something like that.

Dammit, Court, now I'm depressed.

OTOH, I doubt I'd take even that much $$$ to be the darling of delusionists.

OK, maybe someone here can help me grok something:

Once upon an election I really began appreciating the rhetoric from Ron Paul, and wished in vain that he were the GOP frontrunner instead of McCain... now we've got Rand, his son, in the headlines.

Does a Libertarian's son really have to kowtow to the fringe to be electable?

(Fun fact: "grok" wasn't spellchecked on this site!)

Have you paid any attention to the Celebrity president speak ?. He needs to learn to talk, period. I am still amazed how anyone could have voted for someone that cant complete a sentence without saying "duuhh" or "aaahhhhh", or just plain shows his intelligence when the teleprompter stops working.

I cant wait to vote the Democrats out of Wisconsin tomorrow.

They have acted "stupidly"!

I just got this email and this seems like a good place to share it...

Yesterday I dressed up as a Patriot, and got called a Racist by a Liberal Nazi.
I woke up this morning and the news calls me an Angry White Guy.
But ... Tomorrow ...
I'm going to be an American that kick some Socialists butts out of Our Government !!

I heard Sara Palin is taking speech lessons, to overcome the hillbilly-like screech in her voice.

As long as Pakistan is still harboring Al Queda and Taliban tribal leaders and drug lords we will need to have some kind of level of armed forces in northern Afghanistan, whether it be American or UN forces. The problem is we are fighting there with one hand tied behind our back. I say f*** Pakistan and get the b*tches that were actually responsible for the attack on the WTC.

BTW, anything posted on here during my lunch break is subject to scrutiny by good ole uncle sam, btw.

Good luck Sifo! I will be out tomorrow voting against you. I will vote for Quinn and Alexi as I wouldn't want their opponents shoveling my snow let alone representing me. See you and your tea party friends at the at the poles.

While i do not think you should not be entitled to your opinion I am often sickened by many of the views the Tea Bags have and that Rand Paul indecent is just part of the Tea Bag quest for eradication of the left. I find Char to be one of the braver people on this WS as she has the courage to tell you and your friends where to stick it. IMO that is the American Dream not this nonsense that is spewed against her.

Now Sifo I am not trying to single you out but you seem to be the loudest voice.

Or maybe we could all get together and Heckle a guy with Parkinsons yeah that's true patriotism. For a whole bunch of people that scream about God from the top of their lungs they seem to forget about his greatest lessons. Taking care of your weak, compassion and love.

Our health ins. only went up 17% this year and cap and trade is still possible if we follow our hearts and do what is right. Thank the ones who are in power and let's stay on the right track to awesome government healthcare like our vets enjoy and higher energy costs. In obamas name we pray-amen.

>>>>I find Char to be one of the braver people

She's not brave, she's smart.

While her, like Dave Gess and I, are at polar opposite ends of the continuum in the way we see things, Char is well educated and didn't adopt her belief system without some thought and reason.

Dialogue, some pretty enthusiastic, was the fertilizer that made the seed of America take root and grow. It's unlikely that when you get even a small sample of several thousand folks together than an immediate consensus will spring forth.

Go find yourself a group of motorcycle riders near Mt. Wilson, The Blue Ridge Parkway or about any known hot spot and ask "where shall we ride?" . . you'll see what I mean.

Char is outspoken but what induces folks like me to listen is that she doesn't need to sling arrows to speak. Vulgarity and personal insult are the tools a person who is mentally unarmed falls back on.

I find Badweb to be a most interesting microcosm of American society and trust me . . when you teach and spend a good deal of time at Columbia you NEED it! Char would be viewed as a flaming conservative on campus.

: )

Since Sara Palin is such a big part of this Tea Party movement, here's my chance to rant about her.

Sara Palin may command a high advance for a speech, but she quit on the governor's office and I don't think she should be let off the hook for that. If she truly was innocent of those ethics charges, then she should have stayed on and fought to clear her name. Instead, she couldn't stand the heat and she quit. That's a huge liability for a political candidate, at least in my mind.

But judging by how popular Palin is on the speech circuit, her supporters don't seem to care about the recent past. They sit in droves and clap at her cookie-cutter quotes about "mama grizzlies" and a "common sense conservative agenda." Maybe we can blame her looks for that. Maybe her likable face helps supporters forget what a diaster 2009 was for Sara Palin. I guess being hot, having good speech coaches, and a super liberal President combine for a perfect storm of selective memory.

Politically speaking, I'm much more conservative than anything else. But if Sara Palin is the conservative presidential candidate going forward, then count me out of her support group. She's a quitter, pure and simple.

Maybe she quit, maybe she got promoted.

It would be a hard call... if the attention drawn to you as a VP candidate and a target of liberal hate (no other way to describe it) made it impossible to be an effective governor, ahd you have a fully qualified first lieutenant, how do you best fulfill your commitment to serve the state?

I'm not saying the quitter perspective is unfair, I'm just saying it's not the only fair perspective.

its true. some people see what they want to see. including you. Once she overcomes the voice shriek, you will be able to tolerate her and listen to what she is actually saying. And then I may agree with you.

And "IF" she pursues to be the republican presidential candidate...wouldn't she not be considered a fighter? a non-quitter? (maybe she can will up with a new word like... "I am the unquitter"). People see what they want.

But in reality, it doesn't matter what you did in the past... look what Obama did... (practically nothing) and he is unfortunately our current president. At this point, Al Sharpton would have been a better choice.

I understand the Tea Party message, and I like it. I just don't care for the messenger.

Politics is filled with speculation, but these are facts:
1. Lingering ethical stuff, which may or may not have been bullshit.
2. She quit, or "resigned."

I'm going to just assume that "While i do not think you should not be entitled to your opinion" had a BIG typo.

I don't think that the Rand Paul indecent was typical in anyway, even for those at that event. If you listen to the video you can hear people right away saying "No... Don't do that!". It would be great if the video caught what lead up to that incident. The claim is that she was rushing at RP and some people stepped up and grabbed her. We know for sure that she was there misrepresenting her self disguised with a wig. Compared to when BO said to "hit back" at the Tea Partiers and the SEIU thugs showed up in blue T-shirts and pummeled a guy selling some flags the RP thing is nothing, but still wrong. See you at the poles!

Now Sifo I am not trying to single you out but you seem to be the loudest voice.

Don't worry, I've got thick skin. If I couldn't take being challenged, I would stay out of this stuff.

but she quit on the governor's office and I don't think she should be let off the hook for that. If she truly was innocent of those ethics charges, then she should have stayed on and fought to clear her name. Instead, she couldn't stand the heat and she quit.

Quitting the governors office didn't get her off the hook for any of the lawsuits against her. She was flooded with bogus lawsuits (I think the total was 37) and had to defend herself on each and every one. Try dealing with that while running a state government too. I believe she was successful in her defense on every suit too. It's a shame that no one has looked into who organized this legal blitz against her. Very dirty politics. Having said that I really don't want to see her run in 2012. Her experience definitely trumps BO's when he was running though, and it has proven to be a train wreck so far.

Well if that's the case, then I jumped the gun a little. But quitting still sticks in my mind as a big fat negative.

I'm guessing you're also holding BO to the same standards, right? After all, he did "quit" the senate to take a better paying gig, didn't he? Didn't Hillary jump ship on NY to become Sec of State?

Interesting that she didn't hesitate to waive her right of confidentiality to allow full access to all information and that one of the complaints she filed with the state herself to insure a complete investigation.

She's not Presidential material but she wasn't guilty of anything either after all the investigations were concluded.

The really sad part will the day that these guys wake up and realize they have been played.

The thing I like best about Obama is that he is black.

Despite what their handlers pump into their ears, disagreeing with Obama's policies isn't the same as racism.

Had the press done the investigative journalism required of their position, we'd have known that by March of 2008.

I don't usually get into political discussions, however, Mrs. Palin is no longer Governor of the State of Alaska and therefore not my boss anymore.

1. She wasn't qualified to be governor, did a horrible job of it, and by extension isn't qualified to be President.
2. Her appointees were and are all yes men. If you want the Wasilla dog catcher as Secretary of the Interior, the Chief of Police as Secretary of Defense, the Chief of Public Works as Secretary of State, and her buddy the City Attorney as Attorney General vote for her.
3. On the other hand it will be an ideal opportunity for urban renewal starting on election day: every trailer park in the country will be empty on election day.
