Have any of you old fahts tried them? I just got some new fangled type yesterday and now two days in(with little sleep last night) I got to say that I am pretty impressed. I tried bi-focal contacs about five years ago, I didn't get fifty feet with them. How ever it is that they are making them now, it is actually working. I guess I will have to look it up to see how they make them work(should be easier now that I can see to read). It is great to see the full peripheral scope up and down as well as left and right. Hmmmmm, may not trip over stuff as often now. These ought to be much better for working, I can actually see three dimensions of things that I am working with without distortion. One of the things I miss from my youth.....you know.....like the knees, and back, and my mind for that matter. |

I tried a few different types. I am very near sighted and I need bifocals for reading. The bifocal contact lens worked very well during the day. At night they were horrible. All lights had extremely large halos that were so distraction I could not wear them. Give them a try and hopefully they will work better for you. |

I was born as nearsighted as a mole My lust for reading didn't help (I was reading by age 4)...Have worn glasses all my life...I tried contacts of all types beginning with the old hard ones in the 70's. And every new one since. They have come a long way with them. I have been wearing progressive lenses for several years now...took a LOT of getting used to...they distort the world like a funhouse mirror...eventually your brain learns to sort it out, but there are quirks in depth perception...when I am in the mood for some serious go fast, I pop in a set of straight distance vision contacts, makes a world of difference judging closing rates...unfortunately, I am one of those who have a high level of some protein or another in my tears, making prolonged or continued wearing of contacts impossible....so I use them for special occasions where I can be in and out of them in under 10 hours. A friend who can wear contacts just fine takes a different approach...he wears a distance vision contact in one eye and a reading contact in the other...he says his brain has learned to deal with it and from his perspective has normal vision. But he is not a rider and doesn't so much need killer depth perception. |

I've been wearing contacts for 35 years. Up until 4 years ago I wore regular soft lenses. Then the optician got me into a Mono-vision set-up. One eye for distance, another for close. My befuddled brain couldn't get on with this approach. Changed opticians & adopted the progessive lenses. They works well fro me. It did take some getting used to and I can't read anything >100 yards away but I swear by them now. |

+1 on the bifocal contacts.... I started wearing contacts in 1961, and have been wearing bifocal contacts for approximately 15 years. Sometimes in the evening I remove them and use a pair of blended lens glasses. Wouldn't have it any other way! Husky |

Vern - are you also dealing with any astigmatism? I tried the one distance, one close up contacts. My brain never adjusted...after 3 days I had horrible headaches and just went for distance contacts and a cheap pair of cheaters. I wear glasses on a daily basis but do like contacts for riding and fun stuff. I wanted to try the bi-focal contacts, but with my astigmatism I was not a good candidate for them. Just wondering if these are something new to deal with those of us with astigmatism issues. |

As I stated above: I wear the progressive/multifocal lenses. I have astigmatism in both eyes and the lenses correct pretty well for this. |

Thanks Britchri. I may check into these next time I need contacts. It would be nice to have options. |

Sandy has the astigmatism problem also. She and I have both done the mono vision deal. I have a real problem with depth perception that way though, and forget driving at night that way. So far these new fangled things are working out pretty well, kind of a compromise all around, however they make seeing in all three ranges of focus possible without the glasses. I know it is different for people with differing visual acuity, but so far I am impressed. May get a little tweaking in a couple of weeks, but overall, pretty impressed. |

sounds neat. I have the one eye set up for close up and the other eye for far away. working for me. got rid of the reading glasses several years ago. whohoooooooo |

So I just did my first fifteen mile sprint through the local twisties with my new eyewear. I gotta say they really work for this better than for the up-close stuff. It is better than I have been able to see driving for some time, and it seems as if I intensely focus(as in riding fast and hard in the twisties) I can actually see better. Peripheral vision is way better than glasses. I have noticed that they tend to dry my eyes out a bit. Up close stuff has required some focus time for reading, but not too bad. Still better than reaching for glasses. |

Day five and getting better. I did 140 mile round trip for work yesterday on the Uly coming back after dark. They passed that test better than I thought they could. I must say..... |
