Hey, does anyone here have experience with BMW bikes enough to give me an opinion on this deal? http://kansascity.craigslist.org/mcy/2025646668.ht ml Trying to get a bike lined up for the Mrs. to ride next spring after she gets her MC license. Wanted to get her something that she could ride on the backroads with me. |

Great bikes - easy to ride, versatile, economical. I believe 2002 was the first year BMW stopped subbing out the assembly work to Aprilia, and took it back to do in-house. I'll bet it will hold that value pretty well. |

Thanks, Fahren. Do you know of any particular trouble spots (for this model) I should check on this bike when I look at it? Thanks again! (Message edited by balloyd66 on October 29, 2010) |

I saw an alarming picture on AdvRider of one that exploded a front fork casting in the middle of freaking nowhere in Alaska, and some anectdotal reports of others doing that as well. I don't think it was a widespread problem, but it really did look like a manufacturing defect, and if it bites you, you are pretty much guaranteed to biff. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48 6001 Id buy and ride one if I was looking for something in that space though. I don't think it is a huge problem. |

That's about NADA retail if it has ABS...about $300 high if it doesn't... |

Thanks to all for your help! Picked up the bike Sunday for a bit less than asking price. Took it for a ride; handles wonderfully. Nice bike, very good condition, with ABS. And, most importantly, it fits the Mrs. beautifully. Ride safe everyone! |

Be careful, after a buddy bought an R1150RS then he bought an F800GS. Then he bought a Z4. Kind of got the BMW bug. |

My buddy swears by them. After listening to him for years I broke down and picked up a s1000rr. Haven't looked back since. I loved my Buell but it was nothing compared to the Beemer. Granted the dealer is 150 millers away but the service is great! Got a recall and they are picking it up and dropping it off for free. Glad I went with BMW. I would go for that bike. For that price you really can't go wrong. Yeah it's high miles but if maintained they could go forever. Of course it doesn't hurt to ask if he would take less. This bike is definitely a good bike for the Mrs., but as long as my Uly is roadworthy, that's what I'm going to ride. Depending on what Erik comes up with in the future for my riding style will determine if Beemers may be in my future. |
