Wow. Did it really take them that long to figure that out?

I have always been surprised that the local police continued to use the big twins. Police don't do high speed chases on bikes though. The seem to use them more as a mobile command center for dealing with crowds and getting in front of snarled up traffic to direct said traffic. That having been said, I would think there are much better choices available. My votes: KLR650 XB12XP (of course) Kawasaki versys Suzuki Vstrom One other thing that surprises me is that cops seldom have real riding gear. Not much of the current way of doing things makes sense to me. |

I don't know what you guys are talking about! Nothing more welcome sight to me, when out on a sport bike, than Smokey on his Hog. Just knowing there is no way in hell that he could even think about chasing anybody is all good. Right? |

I agree Jon. I actually wave to them, and even stop and talk now and then too. |

If nothing else, the disparity in BRAKING DISTANCE should've opened a couple of eyes. I agree, no need to worry about top speed or acceleration, but... |

Our cops in Tallahassee just had to switch back to Electra Pigs from the BMWs when the BMW dealer in town went tits up. All the motocops are very very unhappy. Last week I was talking with one outside City Hall (he started the conversation by asking me about my Uly) and he told me the main reason they hate the switch, is the heat from the HOG compared to the water cooled BMW. I sympathized with him cause the heat from air cooled bikes in the summer when its 95+ with 80% humidity while riding in town in stop and go traffic or sitting at stop lights can be brutal......good thing I already have kids cause the doodads have been roasted on my Uly many times in the past few summers and they probably dont work as well as they could. |

One thing I did notice over the past couple years the Sheriff's deputies and Highway Patrol that have always ride HOGs are much more abusive to their bikes in their annual "rodeo" than the City cops on the beemers. They're grinding away floorboards, cracking the sidecases and so one in the "obstacle" course and still loosing to the beemers. It almost doesn't seem fair to have then going head to head on such different bikes. There is even one female officer that works for FSU that rides a BMW 650GS, she's a damn good rider....but then they all are really good....way better than me. Chris: I tend to think of it as more of a steamer or sauna with all the sweat running down there. |

When I was in San Francisco a couple of years ago I was talking to a couple of motor police on BMWs. I asked how they liked them and they both said the Harleys were nicer to ride but they preferred the BMWs getting speeders on the highway. |

I hope to have an XP someday. I didn't think to look for one when I got the XT. Would have dealt with the height somehow. A BWB got one, for a fantastic price! Almost as good a deal as I got. The Duc Multi would make a good one. |

There is an 09 XP in my garage. I bought it from San Diego Harley at 3:30PM on the day that the Mothership shut down BuellMoCo. I love it. Unfortunately, they wouldn't sell me the cop flashers or the cop siren. It's brother is my 06 Uly which is for sale. To paraphrase from another current thread: "The A-10 is the Uly of military aircraft". How true. |

According to my secret source, they sold 137 of the XP. 122 in 2009 and 15 in 2010. Guess the 2010 would be a collector's item! |
