Not Buell related but may be of interest. One of my friends has asked me to participate in a ride he has organised to celebrate 30 yrs of the BeeEm GS model. Starting November 5th the goal is to ride 30,000 km,s in 30 days on one 1200 GS. There's a group of 14 guys taking time off work to ride. The local BMW dealership has helped organise sponsorship for tires. (Continental 2 front and 3 rear) and oil and are doing reduced rates for servicing. If you are interested a blog has been started at http://gs3030.wordpress.com/ I am really looking forward to it. By the way I have a new found respect for heated grips after riding a GS over the central plateau here in NZ three weekends ago. |

... or 18641.135 miles... or just about 621 per day... that would be a lot of miles in a month and it sounds like a ton of fun and a sore backside... |

On the upside BMWs are MUCH more comfortable than XBs but yes most likely there will be plenty of sore hind ends |

make sure they don't have a large seam in the crotch/crack area and you will be good to go. I have a pair of Under Armor that work great... and I have a pair of cheap knock offs that treats the boys badly... |

I have used the bike shorts trick. They make a huge difference. Especially on the urban ASSault seat. |

Assuming you're doing this all on the north island of NZ, by the time you guys go 30,000 kms you'll have a groove worn down the middle of it. Also, who's the guy who can't wait to put all that mileage on his bike? |

You are not wrong. There's been a lot of discussion about routes. From where we are based, Tauranga on the east coast, Wellington and back is just over 1000kms. Factor in the fact that most state highways are single carriageway and very few bypass towns, your average speed soon starts to drop. Most of us are planning a 5AM start. But that's part of the fun . At least the weather is warming up. Oh the bike is owned by a very generous gent from the BMW owners register. |
