A buddy and I have been kicking around the idea of going down for DBW next year. I have been doing a little bit of reading and searching but i thought i would ask you fine folks also. Where is the best place to stay? I will have an enclosed trailer with me so i need ample parking, so no parking garage. I'm guessing it's probably best idea to stay outside Daytona, but where i don't know. Besides the obvious, what else should we do while we are there? Eating, site seeing etc.? Really can't wait to see the 1190 in action for the first time! |

Ian, I usually camp at the track lots of stuff going on there. With the camping (infield) pass you can enter the garages and hang out with all the riders and crew. I'll be there. |

Yeah i was thinking about camping but one buddy that is going has a bad back and he can't sleep on an air mattress. Thinking of renting a house down there now. I think that would be the best way to do it! |

Given the state of the housing market in the area renting should not be a problem & is probably the way to go. make sure that they accept motorcyclists. Many private rentals do not all bikes. Also, make sure that you are OK to park a trailer etc' if you are bringing one. |

There are plenty of "bad" areas in Daytona. Make sure you take precautions to protect your property and yourself !! |

Having been to Bike Week a few times, I would almost advise against taking any bikes. The riding in the area is hohum; there is a factual reason behind the "11 turns in 318 miles" slogan. And the traffic is incredible. I have had a biker pass me on the left, in my lane, then pound the brakes and make a hard right turn into a business lot. Almost T-boned him. Another trip, went to the Volusia Co. Speedway to find out the times for that evenings flat-track races. Heading back to the beach, came around the corner to find a string of on-coming traffic, including a semi fully involved in passing another semi. I was in a cage, and had enough room to get completely off the pavement on the right side and let the whole mess pass. That evening, didn't get to the races because of the life-flight 'copters. A drunk in a pickup had decided to pass same-direction traffic, and plowed head-on into a group of bikes. Several injuries, including a husband and wife. One died, the other lost a leg. Plus the worry about bike theft. That being said, the racing can be intense. Main St is worth a stroll, and if the weather is nice it is almost clothing optional, given what some folks wear. Which reminds me, bring some warm weather clothes, it can get chilly. And if it has ever been done to a motorcycle, you will see it there. From rolling classics that are museum quality to wild customs, and all in between. Even saw a 250ish 2-stroke sport bike with a single leg telescopic fork. Italian(?), with a nice guy for an owner. Have a good time, enjoy, and be careful. |

I usually tent at a KOA a couple miles out of town. 1440 E Minnesota Ave, Orange City/Deland. Not too bad and price is very low if you tent it. If you want a hotel you might want to book it now. They are pretty much sold out during bike week from what I've seen. I've been to Daytona many times and it's always great since I'm an avid biker. I'm a Bueller of course but anything on two or three wheels is cool with me. I missed '09 and '10 but will def be there in '11. Maybe we could get a bunch of Buellers to go and camp together. |

When I go to Daytona, I just hop on my bike and go...there is some advantage to living in the "11 turns in 318 miles" state . I have a ragged T-shirt that I always wear to Daytona...it says "I rode my bike to trailer week". The races are worth putting up with the B.S. and the track infield can be a pretty interesting place...no to mention all the other moto stuff and the umbrella girls...and....ok I'm for sure going...missed it last year from being sick... |

67F???? Time to put the liner back in your jacket. I did it last week when it got down to 59F one morning. I thought I was gonna turn into a popsicle on the way in to work. +1 on the infield, its lots of fun and you're not going to have anyone doing burn outs in the hotel parking lot by putting their front wheel against a wall at 1am then again at 2am and again at 3am another at 4am and finally a last one at 5am and then talking BS about how how powerful their screaming eagle mods are the next day. Once again, we can't camp do to my fair weather Harley riding buddy going down with us since he messed his back up in Iraq. He is picky about where he sleeps because of it. We are debating akbuell idea and leavening the bikes at home. Any good reason to take them? Looks like alot of the rental homes double during bike week also, but as of now looks like it may be the best way to go. |

We are debating akbuell idea and leavening the bikes at home. Any good reason to take them? Other than it is just wrong to attend a motorcycle event riding in a car? At least on the bike it is easier to switch lanes and move along in the bumper to bumper traffic. Also, bike parking is free at the track, cars pay. |

Do the infield but not camping.....rent an RV somewhere nearby and drive it in. If you can find one, I can almost guarantee it'll be less expensive than renting a house. Its you're trip, but the infield really is incredible. (Message edited by SayITAintSo on October 27, 2010) |

We rented a house right in Daytona last week. It was a decent size house with a pool we didnt use, and I think it was 1800 for 9 days. Considering that there were 6-9 of us there, a hotel would have been double that. As far as what to do, there are all the normal bike week things going on, but several days we just took off down the coast to find some good seafood and take a break from all the chaps. It's a mess down there, but it's worth having the bike, otherwise you are only an outside spectator. Oh and check out the Victory ride. Last year we went on that, they found a couple decent roads and then bought everybody lunch. Great group of guys. |

I have thought about an RV. I believe its $600 to camp with an RV? I haven't looked but I bet renting an RV for 7-8 days is every bit of $1,000. I will check into that when I get home from work. Trust me I would rather camp. He may have to suck it up. |

Just be glad its not a NASCAR weekend. I made that mistake once. I heard "Sweet Home Alabama" and saw more saggy boobs that is allowed by the Army field training manual on interrogation of prisoners. |
