The Blast will cruise at 75 with no problems. because of the tq it will feel like a bigger bike coming off the corners. |

That's a sweet old vintage Yammie... I ALWAYS love seeing old vintage 70's-80's bikes... |

Oh yeah- the bike's WAAY too big/powerful for a newbie, but I wonder if Webe still has his relative's Suzuki 1200 Madura? Might put it away for the next step up... or just pull a couple of spark plug wires and let 'em go.... (joking) |

It's fun to ride a slow bike fast. Not so fun to ride a fast bike slow. If you learn on a small bike and learn to really throw the sucker around, you'll have tight skills for the bigger bikes. |

i never said that i suggested gettin an 1125 for a starter, just sayin it can be done...the KEY to having a large starter bike is RESPECT, wether you have to earn it or wether you already have it (i had to earn it :/), plus i didnt have the money to jump from a smaller bike to a larger bike...the 1125r was my DREAM bike when it came out, so my dad cosigned and i make the payments...i come from a biker family so they are a little more understandable lol whatever- i could not agree with you more!! i feel its MUCH safer to be on a more powerful bike AS LONG AS you RESPECT it...power is just like anything else, I'd rather HAVE it and NOT need it, than NEED it and NOT have it also rainman- i agree with that too, and if i were to have had the money i would of started small, but im glad with my decision FWIW Jake |

Can and should are very different words. And respect only goes so far with an inexperienced rider. My first street bike was a Sportster 1200. 70hp (not ming boggling, but plenty to get you in trouble) and 570 lbs. I never crashed it, never got hurt, never got a ticket. It's still a bad bike to learn on. I'm not going to judge anything about the circumstances with your bike purchase, but my ex told me she wanted a bike. She had already completed the MSF course. Putting her on something with more than 50hp or so would have just been irresponsible. Hand a 16-year-old the keys to a Corvette ZR-1 and tell them to "respect it". The beauty of a smaller bike is if you overdo any of the controls, you're not going to hurt yourself. You can have all the respect in the world, but a mistake is a mistake. And as was said before, if you buy used, you hardly ever lose much on resale, and with how much less insurance is on a small bike, you could probably even save money in many cases. Don't get me wrong - you have a good head about it (which is a BIG plus, too many don't) and I was your age not that long ago and did just about the same thing, but looking back, I would have done it differently even though I never 'paid the price' so to speak. Jake- you've got the right attitude, maybe one day you could look into being an MSF instructor... |

Xl- trust me i REALLY understand where your comin from, trust me i have ALOT of STUPID friends that followed suit when i got my bike, most of them crashed and are now bikeless, luckily no one was seriously injured during their ownership.. Squids- I took the MSF course, and it made ALL the difference IN THE WORLD in my ability and confidence! To all of my friends i cannot stress to them the importance of taking the MSF course...in fact i flat out tell the majority (unless they have prior experience) that unless they take the MSF course i will NOT ride with them! I really do appreciate the compliments of both of you, ill be the first to admit that i was a DUMB@$$ when i first got my bike...thought i was untouchable hot $hit...then i ATE it, almost totaled my bike (5300$$ in damage), broke my right wrist, and was bikeless for over 3 MONTHS and all because i was showing off...needless to say i EARNED ALOT of respect for my bike that very second, and because of it, i dont treat her like i used too...she's my baby and i treat her accordingly...however im not saying i dont USE my bike...i do..but only under the RIGHT circumstances... oh and a funny thing about my MSF instructors...one is an ex PRO AMA superbike racer, and his wife actually bought the FIRST (to my knowledge) 1125r in AZ, and further made my passion for it grow! ...oh and i bought the 2nd 1125r Jake |
