So, you live in "Fly Over Country" next to a dairy farm and really like fresh milk.
The dairy farmer next door has sold you fresh milk at a very reasonable price for many years.

One day the government says it should become more involved in the milk industry because some people are getting fresher milk at a more reasonable cost than others.

Dairy farmers are then forced to send their milk to Washington D.C. for equitable distribution.

Within a couple of months of the government becoming involved you can no longer get fresh milk.
However the government will sell you powdered milk, sour cream or cheese after they take their cut.

Most dairy farmers go out of business because they can't afford the cost of shipping milk to Washington. Prices for powdered milk, sour cream and cheese rise to the point of a luxury.

This is hailed as a great advance by Washington because they can now can charge the "Rich" a luxury tax for these items.

Think about it.

They have already outlawed drinking fresh non pasteurized milk. they even sent a troop of jack booted goons to raid a grocery selling it.

grew up on a farm, fresh off the cow milk is indeed some of the sweetest most decadant things out there.

It's happening right now.

Help save the Morningland Dairy.

Click here to find out how to help. I bought a $25.00 block of "uncheese".

It isn't outlawed here City. Apparently these guys just didn't have the proper permitting to sell it though. Whole Foods, Henrys, Trader Joes, all carry un-pasteurized, raw, creme top milk. It's expensive but good. Smells like it came right from a big ol' cow nipple.

It's funny that these guys felt the need to draw weapons. What do you think threatened them? Some flip-flopped surfer dude standing there holding a raw egg?

Yep. Legal for sale in 28 states. FDA bans interstate sales however.

I guess my analogy was way to obtuse.

It really wasn't about milk, it was about sending our tax money to Washington.

Yep, that's way too obtuse.

Thought you might be trying to get at something but, nope, that analogy does not work.

Besides, you really want to start yet another thread about taxes?

Sadist says, "…no."

heck I got the analogy.

Let's show what's wrong with Progressive Math.
The average person in the U.S. makes 50k.
Some make far less, others far more. That's not considered "fair". So... The govt. takes every dime from every person and spreads it completely equally to every adult. How much do you think you'd get? based on typical throughput on govt. programs paid for by your taxes, between 20-24k.... IF & ONLY IF the favored of the people in perpetual power don't give extra to their minions. And they always do. Always have. Ask Caligula. Then, I'd get about 11k. I don't know how much you bribed your masters....maybe you'd get more.

About Milk.

Once or twice a year, I camp down near Pittsburg. The camp store had the most decadent chocolate whole milk. No more.

My favorite milk, chocolate, pasteurized, but not homogenized, is no longer available because one PA politician hates the Amish..... at least that's what I'm told. The dairy is closed, and the replacements is not even close. If you left the good stuff out, ( known worldwide as Pennsic Crack, due to the annual Pennsic War held there ) the cream would separate. It made over the top chocolate ice cream, in a manual churn, in August.

The Imperial Valley in CA is starved for water. One of the greatest agricultural regions on the planet is returning to desert, because Greenie politicians cut off the water. Food prices have already gone up. Many fresh vegetables are now being imported, instead, often from lands with a bit less oversight of cleanliness than here. Food prices will go up more.

People have died because of this.

A plan, still ongoing, to save oil, and replace fossil fuels with biofuels, has put ethanol into gas ( mandatory 10% here ) increased the acres of corn, ( & reduced the acres of wheat ) and cut production of food to be shipped, instead making it into fuel to be burned. Mileage on cars has gone down with less powerful fuel, food costs more, shipping of relief food to other lands has been affected. Food prices will go up more.

People have died because of this.

Bioengineered food, the ONLY REASON this many people can live on this planet without massive periodic famines, has been demonized by greenie politicians, and has been left to rot in Africa, for the sake of a political religion.

Lots of people have died because of this.

A writer, dying of cancer, wrote the new bible of the green political/religious movement. Followers of the creed and major fans of centralized planning and authoritarian government, have lied for years about the safety of a common pesticide, and banned it's use in 3rd world countries. Malaria, dengue fever, sleeping sickness, have all become more common due to this choice. Even when the claim of human harm by this pesticide has been disproved, the greenies refuse it's use, on political religious grounds. And lie about it.

Tens of Millions of people have died because of this.

But that's ok, they are not the ( mostly )white college educated elite that refuse to allow........

DDT to save lives...
oil to be explored for...
Food to be grown in the Peoples Republic of California... ( soon to be Mexico.... ask a Supreme Court Judge )

oh, and, Raw milk to be sold...

Sometimes analogies are just fine, thank you.

Bioengineered food, the ONLY REASON this many people can live on this planet without massive periodic famines, has been demonized by greenie politicians, and has been left to rot in Africa, for the sake of a political religion.

One of the great ironies in this world. Genetically engineered crops have to be made to be sterile for fear that they will propagate in the wilds. For this the manufactures of GM seeds get demonized for producing seeds that must be purchased every year. Because of this many African nations refuse to purchase GM seeds, relying instead on natural seed stocks that lack the climate and pest tolerance of the GM seeds. These are the same nations that beg for assistance in feeding their starving populations. They have the solutions to their problems staring them in the face, and yet they let their people starve.

Boggles the mind.

Pat speaks Truth.

He speaks hyperbole, IMHO.

DDT to save lives >>> There are other, less-toxic methods to combat increasingly DDT-resistant vectors. Read about them.

oil to be explored for >>> There are other, less-polluting energy resources that we can produce & consume domestically (the belief that oil drilled for in the U.S. "belongs" to the U.S. is a fallacy; it goes on the global market and is priced accordingly). Read about them.

Food to be grown in the Peoples Republic of California >>> There are water-conserving technologies that can help ensure maximum benefit to domestic & agricultural consumers of scarce Colorado River water. Read about them.

As newbie riders are taught in MSF class, look up/ahead to where you want to go; looking down at the ground is already ancient history.

What's that saying about insanity being about doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results?

My sister lives in East Bum Fuque, Missouri, where she has raised 7 healthy children on a shoestring. Her neighbor used to sell her milk right out of the cow for very little money. The Government Man found it necessary to put a stop to this trade in unpasturized, untaxed, unapproved milk and threatened said neighbor. To do this he had to travel a gravel road and ford a small stream, but nothing can keep the Government Man from his appointed rounds. The mind reels.

"increasingly DDT-resistant"

How can something be "increasingly DDT resistant" if we can't spray DDT?

On DDT I figure the junkscience guys have it about half right on cause & effect, and 2/3 right on green = evil.

Millions of people HAVE died because "green" causes have denied the best methods to control insect related disease, including the use of DDT. I stand by that.

The oil comment was a knock on the anti fossil fuel "greenie/commie socialist destroy the wealth to foster the revolution" attitude that has grown & is now in power. Ask the folk around the Gulf of Mexico.

Of course I want clean, safe, cheap power. I want Fusion, and the already mandated by law reprocessing of nuclear wastes into useful power. France & Japan can do nuclear, we cannot because of propaganda pushed by the watermelons. ( green on the outside, red on the inside )

No expansion of power, no electric cars. Unless you want to shut off power to East LA so the folk in Malibu can charge their GM Volts?

On water. I'm well aware of the problem, having lived in Kansas where fossil water has fed a planet. You can see the pivot irrigation systems from space. Build Nuclear desalination for LA and get back to me on how much water the Imperial valley needs from the Rockies.

Reminds me of this analogy from Pen and Teller.

Demonize something that saves thousand upon thousands because of the fear that it may harm a few. You hear it for everything, from vaccinations to pesticides to seatbelts. "yea I don't wear my seatbelt cause by brother's friend's cousin was once in a wreck and was able to dive into the passenger seat..if he had his seatbelt on he would have been crushed." idiots...

Reading is good; applying critical thought is the clincher. The disciples of partsan socialist propaganda seem unable to grasp the concept of thinking, applying logic, recognizing fact.
