Great read. Confirmed a few things about patents that I had long suspected. I hope it works out for them. If HD had any sense at all, they'd license the IP for $1 to Erik Buell Racing for this first production run. They can take more of the pie when the pie gets bigger. |

Awesome article. Thanks for the link. "I don’t think people look at me like that, I think people like me because I’m like them, they feel like I’m a friend. A few people are a bit weird about it..." Ok fess up. Which one of you creepy stalker types is he talking about? |

Great interview. He dropped some very interesting bits of info about his intentions for the 1125 that were ignored by HD management. First we've heard of that AFAIK. |

HAHA, notice this sentence concerning the AMA "advantages" Buell had and the stink everyone made about it: “Literally, lies were told that hurt our industry. And you go, ‘What are you people doing? You’re ruining a wonderful show, messing up the lives of people that have dedicated themselves to the industry, all for your own ego.’ It was some specific individuals that did that and it was their personal egos not being in control anymore. They really hurt the industry, it was a tragedy. What a shame. I’m drawing a Blank on who that was.” For those who don't know: http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?artic le=38197 |

“If we had raced the 1125RR as an 1190 superbke first and then come out with the 1125R, with the higher higher handlebars and the bigger fairing and the saddlebags — which is really what that bike as, a sports touring model, but things got mixed around by management — would it have sold better? No freaking doubt. I will go to my grave believing that we made a mistake.” Just more proof that the mis-management at H-D really does have their heads up their asses. |

"“All the original patents I have belong to Harley-Davidson" He said have not had? Am I reading into this or what? He has them and just cant use them maybe, until he works out details? |

You are reading it wrong. Try using the word "hold" vice have or had. It's not an insurmountable problem. |

Ownership of patents, and how to use that ownership, is what copyright law is all about. I suspect that Erik has been paying attention to more than John Fogerty's guitar work. |

Hats off the Rotax for going out of the way to support Erik Buell Racing! I think Erik is spot on with appropriate tenacity and dedication to accomplish these first critical steps to getting the 1190RS launched. |

that is a great article. I like that it dispels all the what ifs and rumors about what he can and can't do with Harley dealings like the engine, and patents. The engine is not theirs and he is working on two different approaches to the patents problem. |

To the core of my being, I believe Erik Buell, and Buell Motorcycles were black balled by the industry. Too much ego, jealousy, and fear. He is a "Tucker" on two wheels, and thank god he still up and fighting! God Bless the man. |

I was once asked during a job interview to name 5 people...living or dead...that I would invite to a dinner party. If I were asked that same question now...Erik Buell would be on that list! Erik...feel free to consider that an open invitation. |

The lie that still bugs me was Kevin Camerons piece in Cycle World. He flat out and completely blew the math for the power advantages of a 4cyl versus a 2cyl. I don't know if it was deliberate, or just because he has a lifetime invested in the "status quo" of japanese fours and manufacturer driven racing. Erik was undermining both those models, making a great twin and making it possible for people that don't want to kiss corporate @$$ to race and be competitive. He printed a retraction later, but it was much less visible than the mistake. When I screw something up that badly (and I have), I make sure my correction is broadcast 4 times as loudly as my mistake. I don't think that happened. |

I wonder what the 1125r with higher bars n bags would have been like. As much as I love my Uly I can just imagine how awesome that 1125r based tourer might be... I hope he comes back and just CLEANS UP and can have a good laugh at HD while he watches his bikes roll into the winners circle... |

Erik has an incredible relationship, based on mutual respect and honest dealings, that will bode well for both Buell faithful and future customers. Things could not be going in, at least in my personal opinion, a better direction. Erik is doing a stellar job of moving about 4,500 pieces of a complicated puzzle together Some of the IP would be nice to access but HD has nothing they can withold that would impede his vision. These are the most exciting times in the history of Buell and the healthiest, emotionally and physically, Erik has ever been. Let's just say ...... Quoting E. T. Halbert ....." his competitive spirit has been aroused" Erik Buell is in the biggest race of his lifetime. |

As far as what DMG has done with the series, how could anyone not understand their logic, sell their brand. Adapt the series to bring in bikes of similar power from all over the world, not one little island in the pacific, and let them compete! Not everyone owns a Kawaondayamazuki! Who wants to watch a homogenized series of all japanese, 600, inline 4s, not me for sure. They are extending their brand to include the rest of the world. I think Blank is cut from the same fabric as many of those in upper management of H-D. Like the great idea of the XR-1200 race series, imagine if that were the main event at a race weekend! Go Erik Buell Racing!!!!!!! |
