Hello all! I'm posting up to inform everybody that I've been training since January to run the Marine Corps. Marathon this October 31 in DC. I am running for the Fisher House charity organization. If you haven't heard of them, they provide housing at 18 military installations and 15 VA medical centers. The housing is provided free for family members of injured and sick military personnel so they can be close to loved ones in recovery from major injuries and illnesses. To date they have provided 3 million days of lodging to over 120,000 families. For more detail on Fisher House you can visit their web site at: www.fisherhouse.org I have a donation web page here: www.active.com/donate/fisherhouse2010mcm/jpbouchar d Please check it out and make what donations you can to support our troops! I've seen a lot of support from here in the past and hope to see a lot more in the next couple of weeks... I'm doing the training and the running...please help out with a little contribution...even if it's only 5 or 10 bucks...with all the BadWeb people here that will add up!!! The money raised at this years marathon is going directly to the three new houses just completed at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to support their new facility for brain trauma patients. Thanks everybody!!! |

J-P Good on you! I'm Air Force and living in the DC area but been to Walter Reed quite times lately for specialty clinics the air base doesn't have. Everytime I go in I go right past the Wounded Warrior Center at WR. Plus walking through the building you can't help but run into lots of troops (probably from all the services) who undoubtedly are there as a result of injuries suffered downrange. Taking care of the families and loved ones is important too and plays a huge role in their successful recovery. I've spent a good bit of time at the National Naval Medical Center (at Bethesda) and witnessed the same things. I know Walter Reed got quite a bit of bad press a few years ago but let me tell you as nurse who was there as a patient ( we are notoriously critical), Walter Reed is by far the finest medical facility, military or civilian, I've ever set foot into. The place is immaculate and the staff ( from the housekeepers to the docs ) are the friendliest, most caring and most professional group ever. Years ago I asked for help here when my nephew Adam suffered a TBI after being flipped off his Honda CBR. Badwebber's were very generous. Let us know how we can help Don (Message edited by midnightrider on October 13, 2010) |

BTW - Something I've been meaning to do for a long time......... If anyone would like to see Adam and how he's doing, you can check out this from the MTV channel http://www.mtv.com/search/?q=brain+injury It shows three different young men (I think - hard for me to watch) but only one named Adam. Part of the footage was shot at my house last Christmas season when they all came down from New York State for the holiday. He continues to progress but it's painfully slow. His family are troopers and his mom - well, she's nothing short of a saint Thanks again to everyone who contributed their hard earned $ years ago and thanks too for those who did what they could with their words of support and prayers Ever grateful Don J-P - apologize for hijacking your thread. again let me know what I can do to help |

No problem Don... All the help I need is for people to pick the link to my web site and post up a donation...of any value they want...even if it's only a dollar. I've seen tons of support here on Bad Web for troops and personal issues all the same. That's why I posted up here...trying to do all for them that I can. And yes...the Fisher Houses (and the medical centers) are there to support troops from ALL branches. I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon - they are the organizers and name sake of the event...not the sole beneficiaries. I'll actually be touring the new facility on October 30th...should be some good motivation to take the pain I'll be feeling on the 31rst...as bad as that may be...it won't come close to comparison... |

Sounds like a good cause and a tough challenge. Good luck with the run and fund raiser. Funds to follow shortly. |

Speaking of donations for the Fisher house I was reading earlier That Denzel Washington made a sizable donation to them. So hears a quick shout out to him him being a good person as opposed to other celebs that do nothing. |

Thanks to you guys that donation number is climbing very nicely. Thanks for the support!!! It's greatly appreciated!!! For other notables...Kevin Bacon has donated a fair amount to Fisher House as well...including his time. He met up with Fisher House through his work on the film 'Taking Chance' a few years back for HBO. A GREAT film if you haven't seen it... THANKS AGAIN!!! 12 days and counting to 26.2... BRING IT!!! |
