Up until about 2 or 3 years ago I was always a skinny guy and never had a problem with my weight. Well when I turned 24 and got married my weight went way up from 135/140 to 190/200. Today I weighed in at 191 which is still over but I was allowed 22% body fat and I came in today at 20.3%. Which is awesome for me because I have been between 23 and 21. For some this may be a silly thing but for me it has been some what of a struggle because my early 20's and before I was able to eat what I wanted, drink what I wanted, and did not have to do much excersise now that is not the case. |

You will have to pry my twinkie out of my cold dead hands... No in all seriousness I have changed the way I eat quite a bit. I have replaced ground beef with ground turkey in any application I would use it. I buy whole grain noodles instead of regular noodles were I can. I switched bread from white bread to that white/wheat bread. I don't eat rice as much as I used too which is hard for a Cajan man. I eat a lot of grilled chicken. Now don't get me wrong I do not deny my self things when I want them now. Like if I go to a resturant and want a big juicy burger I will get it but I don't do that but maybe once a week at most. |

yea I don't like this getting old stuff. Though I am in no way saying I am old yet but my wife sure tries to tell me I am since she is 6 years younger than me. |

I feel your pain brother. I'm 6' and 200lbs. I'm down from 220 last winter by eating better and I've been PT'ing my A$$ off this whole summer. But.... today I failed my PT test! I got max points on push ups and situps but ran what is normal for me (13:37) Yes, I'm slow. I've been within 20 secs or so for like 8 years. Too bad that 36 to 37 seconds is a 3 point difference! SO the run is 60% of your score, so they use 30sec chunks of time to measure a 9-14 minute run! The AF can fly a missile up a rat's ass from 20 miles away but won't bother to measure your career-changing PT test any more precise. |

oh man You had me confused for a second when you said 13:37 but I forgot ya'll run a mile and a half were as we run 2 miles so 13:37 would be pretty fast for us. Yea running has always been my worst event but now due to numerous leg injuries i don't have to run any more I walk my pt test, Which is not by any stretch of the imagination easier. |

Working Joint Service, I took many tests with both Army and Navy. They all have things about them that don't make sense. I know the Army walk test is no joke. I'm just trying to keep from blowing my knees out. Although I'm convinced that if I did blow a knee and got exempted from the run, I would start scoring in the 90's. |

Brown rice is good! Sounds more like marriage than age. Wife's a good cook? Not so much out and about with the fellas? |

5'8" 135 lbs, the Navy keeps telling me to get fatter I know a handful of guys who lift a weight with their neck to lower their BMI. The bigger your neck is, the bigger your gut is allowed to be |

I've got an 18.5" neck. What does that equal in army? |

For men, all measurements in inches: %Fat = 86.010*LOG(abdomen - neck) - 70.041*LOG(height) + 36.76 For women, all measurements in inches: %Fat = 163.205*LOG(abdomen + hip - neck) - 97.684*LOG(height) - 78.387 Measure Body Fat Using the US Navy Method |

well no offense to my wife but she is not the one that does most of the cooking I am. But yea the not going out as often might have something to do with it or at least not doing the crazy stuff I used to do. ft_bstrd try using the site Pkforbes87 posted and that should tell you what it equals as that looks like the same formula we use in the army (Message edited by firebolt020283 on October 06, 2010) |

Just so your not misleading your self, The white/wheat bread is just as bad for you as the white stuff! It still has Bleach/Enriched Flour which is not good for you! If you really want to Eat good Bread, make sure it says BOTH %100 whole Wheat AND %100 Whole Grain! check the back of the bag for the %100 whole Grain! Some Brands are Defintaely better than others so try a few out untill you find what you like! Whole Grain Bread is not only better for you but it will keep you full Longer! |
