Bah, you're definitely not old, and kudos for doing the Iron-Butt.

I've had to postpone mine until I get my bike out here to Georgia... too many details got in the way.

Good luck and Godspeed.

Hey Oldog, I was thinking of giving you a ring because I might come down to check out Wilmington... probably do the old grad school application there this winter... oh and I keep looking out for those Army Corp of Engineers jobs too... if you can PM me your phone number and I will put you on my list to call when I get down to RTP...

I have the bike shorts and the sheepskin butt pad... I think the butt pad might work better if I sit on it, instead of wearing it on my head...

Well- start with the obvious, check all the connections to/from the battery, then the main fuses, etc.

You've got the new version of my bike- surely you can figure it out!

First thing first, take a big deep breath, get calm, take your time looking at things.

Good luck! Keep us posted as to your progress, or lack thereof- with all the peeps on this site, you'll giterduuun before you know it.

No lights nothing? Check battery connection.

Battery isn't likely to drain to complete failure so clock should show time.

If clock is zero, or dead, connection was broken.

Let us know if clock is on.

Tuber jealousy thats what happens when you run off with a Xb instead of a M2 never ever let the M2 be in the same area when you ride the XB. M2s get jealous as a Green eyed Redhead. The M2 killed your Xb

Are you sure you didn't leave it on? You are getting up there in age you know.

Here's a funny clip about getting old...It gets really funny after the first minute or so.

I slapped in a new battery and am charging the old one. Fired right up. Not only did I NOT leave it on, I did NOT leave the heated gear control on AND the kill switch was on when I went in there this morning. Had to turn it off to try and start it. I thought, that is odd...

Somehow, the way they wired in the gear must be faulty. I am either going to have to take it in on Friday OR take the fuse out of the heated gear wire harness if I stop it for more than ten mintues.

NOT GOOD. I am still pissed. I have been getting ready for my trip all weekend and was actually going for a ride today. Now I can't get the friggin rubber battery strap back on. Is there some kind of trick to that? I see some skinny cable the bike's tool kit came with. Does it have something to do with that?

OOOhhh, the battery strap!!! The devil's own invention. Good luck with that...

Get a multitester, check what you can- better yet, if your shop if open tomorrow, take it to them and voice your suspicions. If they're good peeps, they should check your stuff and diagnose the problem.

They should be very aware that you're traveling through several states in your attempt at an IB certificate. And have a vested interest in your success.

I suspect the problem is very simple, and by the same virtue, THE MOST AGGRAVATING.

Good luck- you'll get it figured out.

Battery strap is easy. Just stretch it a bit toward the unhooked side and pin it down to the top of the battery with your thumb. This will leave the end slack so you can easily put it on the hook with your other hand.

As for the heated gear wiring... Is this for heated clothing, or heated grips that stay on the bike. If it's for heated clothing, the electricity should stop as soon as you unplug. Either way check to see if you can heat your "gear" with the ignition off. If it all stays cool, the gremlin may be elsewhere.

If a viking broke a shoelace, the trip would be cancelled. It would be taken as a warning from the gods that the trip was doomed.

They'd stay home and set another start date.

Or...

The Van Halen brown M&M story. The truth is that if the promoters had not read the part about the brown ones, it alerted everyone that the other details were not looked after. Best to find those out before you started.

Me: "What do you think?" (Talking about the bike).
Him: "I think your'e not wearing a bra!" God, I love my biker dude friend...

I don't know what the issue was, but the old battery is STILL charging and the new battery is all set to go. I am going to remove the fuse in the electrical gear system as a precaution if I am not running the bike.

I am starting to wonder if I got a bad battery? WTF? Now, honestly, I am just exhausted... I am gonna eat and go to sleep...

How is your heated gear wired up? I run the HD stuff, wired direct to the battery, and have left the controller on quite often and it's never drained the battery - tuber, XB, and Loki, they all behave just fine. As noted above, if you unplug the clothing, the only draw is the LED on the controller.

If it's heated grips, they should be wired to something ignition-switched. There's an aux outlet behind the flyscreen designed for the factory heated grips. The reason grips need to be switched is, the element is always there. It doesn't go away like the clothing does when you unplug it.

A '10 will take forEVER to drain the battery if it's turned off too far - the LED taillight draws next to nothing. And, it's bright enough that you won't miss the fact that its on.

Worst case, I'll have tools with me at TWO and I usually bring my multimeter as well. If it's not sorted by then, it will be before you go home : )
