Utah Transit Authority is hiring for an Electromechanic for their new Jordan River Service Center. FROM: THE DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES SUBJECT: POSITION VACANCY: ELECTROMECHANIC - JOB # 10:147 DATE: September 30, 2010 UTA announces openings in the Light Rail Vehicle Maintenance department for Electromechanics to work various shifts with days off bid as per seniority. While in training the shift will vary during first 4 month according to an assigned training schedule. Interview will contain mechanical questions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Have three years experience with advanced electronic or electrical applications. 2. Pass a DOT physical. 3. Have Journeyist level knowledge and understanding of maintenance and repair techniques acquired through experience as a skilled mechanic. 4. Have knowledge of advanced mechanical, electrical, and electronic theory and principles. Candidates must demonstrate this knowledge by successful completion of the qualifying Electromechanic exam*. 5. Be able to successfully complete a training program and pass a comprehensive technical exam. 6. Be able to pass a Light Rail Vehicle operations exam for the safe operations of train movements in the yard or shop. 7. Be able to perform the physical requirements of this job. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs skilled services involving the inspection, trouble shooting, maintenance, and repair of all electronic, electrical, and mechanical equipment on rail vehicles. Operates diagnostic test equipment solving complex equipment malfunctions and other problems. Applies appropriate rail maintenance principles and techniques to rail car equipment and keeps up-to-date on knowledge. Operates equipment necessary for the repair and maintenance of rail cars, maintains logs, and completes reports relating to job. PAY RATE: $22.28 per hour, plus $.60 shift differential if applicable. Nefarious may be a little rough, there's a lot of good folks on here, weeding out the nefarious ones isn't too tough.   But yeah, I'm pretty much making that offer, we'd have to talk on the phone an such, just so the proper glowing reference could be made. People who've been on the site for a while, who I'm familiar with would certainly be safer for me to vouch for... Would you like a reference Jeff? Major job opportunities and security in the rail industry right now  I'm a technical writer for one of the only brake manufacturers in the industry and things are looking great! Plus they're fun as hell to work on ... just a little dirty! Pretty much if you've ridden any Amtrak train, any of the NYC rail cars (LIRR, NJT, MNR, Acela, etc.) up to AMT ... I've written the manuals for the brake system (inspect, replace, test, overhaul). Fun stuff!! EDIT: and with the NYC system adding the M8 cars, and the M9 cars to kick off in 2012 or so. The Toronto Rocket cars are getting there, Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) already in service, and the WMATA cars in DC are about to start on the 7000 series. It's not a bad starting wage for the area, considering cost of living and the local housing market. Life here in the Utah mountains is a lot less expensive than on the right, or left coasts. | ||

Nefarious ? - only joking (in most cases). Concur with Mike's comments. SLC area has four actual seasons - summer not too hot, winter not too cold, spring/fall VERY nice. Low crime rates, reasonable housing and cost of living. UTA is a good outfit to work for, from those I know out there. It's kinda purdy around here too - less than 6 hours to a bunch of national parks and monuments. Not enough sin for ya? Vegas is close enough to drive. Oh yeah, we're the home of Miller Motorsports Park, Widowmaker (the real one, you know, from the Wide World of Sports), Bonneville and more twisty roads than you can shake a stick at. We breed those Nitro Circus guys (half of them are from here), so Utah has more than it's fair share of weirdness if you are worried about being bored. And yes, you CAN buy a beer virtually anywhere. Hook you up with two or three new wives, too, if you swing that way. | ||
