Here is an interesting look at the gang from back in the day. It's from an article that was never published until now. Some cool looking shots of real old school bikes. http://www.life.com/image/ugc1129811/in-gallery/47471/never-seen-hells-angels-1965

Every time I see a group of bikes like these I can't help but think of the "Black Widows" from Every Which Way But Loose. Some of those bikes just look ridiculous. I also can't imagine living my life stuck in a middle school mentality- what underlies all the posturing and sophomoric machismo? |

The Vagos and Hell Angles had a "shoot out" last month about a mile or so from me. Never even knew about it 'til the next day. The press made a big deal of it, but as someone once said, "It's not that they are ignorant it's just that they know so much that isn't so." If they really want to do any real damage them biker boys need to spend some serious time on the firing range. There's a world class firearms academy (Gunsite) just a few miles up the road. Maybe they ought to check it out. G |

I also can't imagine living my life stuck in a middle school mentality- what underlies all the posturing and sophomoric machismo? I don't know, but I'm thinking you have not been a part of a MC before. If you were/had been a member/prospect of a MC you would understand. Or just spent quality time around one, you might get a better idea. I'm not talking about the violence some commit, or indeed some of the sophomoric nature at times. But the Brotherhood aspect, that, when real, is a powerful bonding force. When you are a part of something larger than yourself, and have a sense of belonging, it's something you want to hold on to. - Maybe that might help explain it. If not, as one of my favorite stickers says: If I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't understand. |

Seems best to choose friends for who they are, not what club they belong to. |

I think the pics look like us hang'n out at Homecoming... WVBR... Marchbadness... Buelltoberfest. the only difference is the clothing and the bikes... the attitude my be way different, but for the most part it looks like a lot of people having fun middle school mentality... If only I could get out of elementary school |

Nice to see some "propper choppers" instead of the CNC'd trash that people call choppers today. |

+1 Very interesting to see mid 60s rebellion. I bet these guys would beat the tar out of you, but you would live to brag to your kids or grandkids. Too bad these days things cant be settled with non lethal force. |

Nice shots from another era. I still know guys who were part of that article, as well as a few who were part of Hunter Thompson's piece. Until you've actually spent any serious time with such a club, it's best to hold off on judgements. There are media reports, and there is reality, and somewhere in between, well.... |
