I didn't and I regret it. We've been happily married now for 11 years and I wish I had. If anything else he'll be honored you did. |

This is how I see it. Asking her father is a sign of respect and acknowledgment to his efforts in raising and caring for her all those years. A lot of people don't care about asking, because they are only concerned about their desires and wishes. In my opinion the best way to be welcomed into a new family is to be respectful and acknowledge their efforts by simply asking that question. |

I guess I'll be the odd man out on this one. I don't see the point. If he doesn't like you, chances are you already know. And if he doesn't give his blessing, are you going to back out? If you would, then you probably shouldn't even be thinking about it, anyway. I'm not married but I've been engaged before. Her father LOVED me, I was honestly the son he never had. I never asked him and I don't know that he minded, as the response when she told her parents was, "It's about time". The girl I have now has no father in the picture and I wouldn't say a word to her mother, either, as I don't trust her to keep a secret, lol. MAYBE her sister, but this is all way down the line at this point. |

Congrats! I did not ask my fiances dad (gettin married in 9 days!), rather asked her parents blessing on the relationship after she said yes (both parents...mom def wears the pants!). It's not a matter of respect in my eyes- the truth is, with or without their blessing/permission I was going to marry their daughter! Plus they love me Good luck this weekend! |

I think it's a matter of honor and respect. When I asked Heidi's dad, Jack, if it would suit him if I married his daughter, (her second marriage), he nearly broke into tears. After giving his blessing, and cracking a bottle of Aberlour, he then confronted me with the other side of the deal: Is this what it is gonna take to finally get ME on a BMW? Suffice it to say, there is now a Teutonic beauty in my home AND my garage! |

Congratulations! Good job on seeking her father's blessing. Wish I would have had the forethought to do that. |

Good for you both. As for married men living longer, is that a plus or a minus? |

Married men may live longer but single men get to play with more chippies. |
