Can anyone recommend any fairly cheap lodging near Knoxville, Gatlinburg TN and or Cherokee, Brevard NC??? I am looking at this itinerary and probably should make at least a few solid plans... Oct 8 Fri- Madison WI to Chapel Hill NC OR Madison WI to Knoxville Area TN Oct 9 Sat- to or in Chapel Hill NC Oct 10 Sun- Chapel Hill NC at Friends' Oct 11 Mon- head east or west Oct 11- Oct 14- Outer Banks and beach OR Oct 11- Oct 14 Brevard for some hiking, riding OR Charlotte to stay with friends OR Riding around somewhere in the mountains for a few days (most likely scenario) unless my but is still numb and I go lay on the beach... Oct 14 Thur to Oct 17 Sun At TWO Suches GA for Buelltoberfest Not bringing camping gear, unless I borrow some from friends in Chapel Hill and go camp at Cape Hatteras National Seashore... Would like to keep hotel cost btw 50 and 100$ per night... |

Char, there's lots of good places... Ironhorse Lodge is between the Gap and Cherokee on the secondary highways, heard good things about them- Fontana Village on NC28 is just 20ish minutes from the Gap- You might PM Dragonslayer- Vince knows more about the NC side, has helped organize a MC gathering or 2. Western NC is chock full of neat places- Lake Lure/Blowing Rock is just south of Asheville, plenty of great roads to/fro... Even the Smoky Mountain HD website might have a few links, haven't checked in a while- if you call the dealership and ask for Shaun or Doorag, those are good buddies of mine, both should know of several nice places to stay. Keep researching, and good luck!! |

We always stay at Deep Creek Campground and Cabins in Bryson City, NC. It's fairly central to all the best riding areas, is very reasonable, and it's a wonderful place to stay. http://www.deepcreekcamping.com/ |

Microtel right in Robbinsville, NC would probably be near the low end of your price window. It's a nice clean place right on 129 just south of the Dragon and right near the Cherohala Skyway. Great riding in any direction and they are very bike friendly with bike specific parking. |

Couple of buddies and I are staying in the Tuckaseigee cabin (circa 1920) 22-26 October. I also highly recommend the Cataloochee cabin (circa 1886) which we've also stayed in. The cabins down by the river are actually modular "trailer" cabins and not as rustic as the vintage ones. If you end up staying in Bryson City, you'll be heading north on 28 to get to US129, but it's just as important to head south on 28 (off of 19/74) and head down to Franklin, NC. This is one of the "must do" roads when riding in western NC. |

Kewl old wood cabins!! My next door neighbor where I grew up built a 3 story log house, in the (old) suburbs, from old wood salvaged from areas flooded by the TVA dam/lake projects. It's just great to get out and be at peace in the woods for a bit... |

I am not too much into planning on road trips... kindof like the 'just pack and ride until you can't ride anymore' approach... my trip to the UP was somewhat brutal on the body but by the fourth day I was well adjusted thinking I could do this every day... best part were the little surprises you find at the last moment... Would love to crash at badwebbers homes but looks like that isn't an option... will do more research today, in less than two weeks I am off... |

Char - if you need, I can bring a spare tent for ya. Don't think I can stuff in a spare sleeping bag (unless I don't bring clothing, and I wouldn't want to subject other Buellers to THAT lol). I'm headed down from MD on Thursday. Not sure if I'm gonna get all the way to TWO on Thursday or stop partway down...we'll see how I and the one or two others I'm riding with feel about that. |

Thanks, but I am all set at TWO... with the amount of debauchery (ahem, yeah you! you know who you are) I witnessed at Homecoming I am definitely glad I got my own room in the lodge there... I am NOT into 'cold weather camping' as I used to be in college... |

Stayed at the SanRan motel in June, other than being in a dry town it was fine. Price was reasonable and the owner's cycle friendly. Only ten miles or so from the Dragon, and walking distance from a couple of places to eat. Was clean and neat. |
