What's the difference between a Harley and a Hoover? The location of the dirt bag. |

I raced a Harley last weekend and after some really hard riding I managed to PASS the guy. I was riding on one of those really, really twisting roads with no straight sections to speak of and where most of the curves have warning signs that say "20 mph". I knew if I was going to pass one of those monsters with those big-cubic-inch motors, it would have to be a place like this where handling and rider skill are more important than horsepower alone. I saw the guy up ahead as I exited one of the turns and knew I could catch him, but it wouldn't be easy. I concentrated on my braking and cornering. Three corners later, I was on his tail. Catching him was one thing; passing him would prove to be another. Two corners later, I pulled up next to him as we sailed down the mountain. I think he was shocked to see me next to him, as I nearly got by him before he could recover. Next corner, same thing. I'd manage to pull up next to him as we started to enter the corners but when we came out he'd get on the throttle and outpower me. His horsepower was almost too much to overcome, but this only made me more determined than ever. My only hope was to outbrake him. I held off squeezing the lever until the last instant. I kept my nerve while he lost his. In an instant I was by him. Corner after corner, I could hear the roar of his engine as he struggled to keep up. Three more miles to go before the road straightens out and he would pass me for good. But now I was in the lead and he would no longer hold me back. I stretched out my lead and by the time we reached the bottom of the hill, he was more than a full corner behind. I could no longer see him in my rear-view mirror. Once the road did straighten out, it seemed like it took miles before he passed me, but it was probably just a few hundred feet. I was no match for that kind of horsepower, but it was done. In the tightest section of road, where bravery and skill count for more than horsepower and deep pockets, I had passed him. Though it was not easy, I had won the race to the bottom and I had preserved the proud tradition of another of America's best bikes. I will always remember that moment. I don't think I've ever pedaled so hard in my life. And some of the credit must go to Schwinn, as well. They really make a great bicycle... |

Buell=Harley/Harley =Buells.Zero customer support or appreciation.Piss on them both.I've owned my first and last "HD" product. How's Erik doing on the XB support anyway?Yeah thats what I thought. Is everyone drunk or what? And yeah that joke is probably 30 years old. |

Erik Buell Racing, to my knowledge, has not produced a single XB street motorcycle. Why should they be on the hook to support them? HD, by shuttering Buell and not selling it, decided to retain all the support baggage. You want to bitch about a lack of support, call HD. |

there's lots of stuff at Erik Buell Racing for the XB platform... fuel injection, race bodywork, wheels.... just cause they're only moving forward with what the public MOST LIKELY wants is no reason to be pissy todd |

Hootowl, Do some research and you'll find Erik Buell was told by his lawyers to NEVER even agree to the contract with HD but he did anyway.I learned this after I had bought mine.He chose to put his name on the bikes and hold hands with HD for many years.I am only doing what he wanted.I associate the two as the same.He is the only reason I gave HD a second look and he is the reason I say piss on them both.I'll not cast my pearls before either swine again.Make no mistake about, you bash HD and you are bashing Buell.Or if you are loyal to Buell then you are loyal to HD.Read Buells history. It's all in black and white.Surely I am not the only one to assess this conclusion. |

interesting tread. I have one question though, how did you get that bunny to sit still long enough to take that picture? as for the joke about only 2% made it home, that use to be the running joke about Ford. Still is funny though. |

I don't need to "do some research", to know that Erik sold Buell to HD. That little piece of history is common knowledge. Your assertion was that Erik is not providing support for the XB platform, to which I say, correctly, that you need to look to HD for that. Erik is no longer involved. <rant> I am SICK of seeing people post "do some research" on message boards. I nearly always ignore the rest of the post. </rant> |

After my first 10,000 miles worth of service failures at the stealerships, I looked to only one place for my product support. Al Lighton of American Sport Bike From that point forward I was a very satisfied customer. |

What do Harley Davidsons and German Shepherds have in common? They both like to ride in the back of a pickup. I can say that 'cause my Harley powered Buell has been there plenty of times. As of right now it's sitting on stands in the garage. Just sayin'. |

That's something I've never heard until now. The only saving grace is that it's as accurate as most the information in this thread. That goodness and Al Gore for the internet. . . . |

How's Erik doing on the XB support anyway?Yeah thats what I thought. Very well, thank you. Considering HD would not let him take the rights to the XB with him, yet he has still made himself available to answer questions and give advice to xb owners. Not to mention providing parts as well. BTW Erik Buell Racing does not = Harley... |

"I'd be interested in learning more. That's something I've never heard until now. Sorry. Erik sold 98% of Buell to HD. Is that not accurate? |

If not, how did HD end up owning 98% of Buell? And how could they shut down Buell if they didn't own it? |
