Here's the thing, I'm going to be doing some long hauls across France & back with the STT & my rear Scorpion Sync is about knackered. I love the tyre but the middle wears out too fast for my liking & they're about 20% more expensive than a road tyre. When I eventually get the M2 sorted & back on the road it'll be used for my touring/distance bike & the TT for the twisties, but for now the XB has to do it all. I've been thinking about a set of Roadsmarts but I've also heard stories about them developing a step. I don't like Metzelers & Michelins I've always found overpriced, I've been reading about Shinko's but they're hardly any cheaper than "name" brands here. Your thoughts? |

You've already ruled out my preferred brand (Metzeler) so good luck... I plan on trying out a set of Z6 Interacs at my next tire change. |

I have been using Conti Road Attacks for the last 5k miles. Rear has 1500-2000 left. Most of my ride is straight lines due to lack of curves in SE WI/NE IL. Price is reasonable. I have a new rear ready to go. The front will make it for the life of the 2 rears. Handling is great. |

I've had good performance from the Bridgestone sport touring models. |

Froggy is having good luck with the new scorpion trail (which looks like a sync but with thicker tread). |

I have Michelin Pilot Road 2's - I don't know what prices are like on your side of the pond, but over here I can find them for a song if I look a little (. I recently rode them across the country and did a lot of traveling on fast, straight and blazingly hot desert roads - they probably have 5,000 miles or more on them at this point, and in all honestly look way less than half worn to me. You might be able to get other ties for less, but with how often I'll be replacing these I'd bet I'm ahead of the game. They handle great and have never slipped on me as well. (this is on my S3T). |

My road smart it starting to "step" at 8,700 miles... I'd say pretty good wear. Next up will be the PR2's, some are getting 12,000 miles out of them. |

+1 on the PR2's. Not the cheapest to buy, but I put 12K on one and 14K on another. Both were replaced before their time was due, but both times I was about to head toward the Smokies for about 3.5K of riding. I just didn't want to be caught in the rain with worn tires in the mountains. |

Hard for me to have any luck with a tire I don't own Other than 20 mile demo ride of a Multistrada, I don't know anything about the tire. But it did feel nice. |

The RoadSmarts on both my Norge and Terri's Ss had a significant step (and the handling had gone to shit) when we got home from our cross country ride. That was 7500 miles of mostly Interstate riding. I put another set on the bikes only because we bought them in the Spring and had them waiting in the garage. I won't buy them again. I had really good life and traction from my Pirelli Diablo Stradas; I think I'll probably try a set of Angels next. (Message edited by Crusty on September 13, 2010) |

I still love my Dunlop D616s on the Uly. Just wish they did dual-compound...but for the price, I can't argue one bit. |

Best mileage I ever got from a sport tire has been Bridgestone BT016. Rear is triple compound, hardest in the middle. I actually wore out the sides before the middle last time. |

I took off my pilot road 2's (that can be had for about 220 a set) with 6,000 miles on them and they still looked like new. I just wanted something with more grip. |

ive personally NEVER seen teh shinkos go on sale. if you are patient, you can get a better/more confidince-inspiring tire for the same or comprable price. -i'm not saying that the shinkos have let me down in the last several thousands of miles, it s just that i can find a pirelli for teh same prices on sale- for example; i scored a diablo strata for 127 USD (mounted and balanced) OTD durring my local cycle gear's 'after-hours' sale. a shinko would run me 97 USD shipped to my door from e-bay, and cycle gear asks 20 for M&B. i don't know what the exchange rate is or what shops you have across teh pond. |
