I have a great job offer in the Columbia, SC area. I am looking for info on the right part of town to live in. Realtime demographics from actual residents. My wife is a teacher, so we would like to find a good fit for her as well. Let me know your thoughts... I trust most of you some of the time |

First, there is no place hotter than Columbia in the summer- hell is a refuge from this place. Second, if you can survive the summers- it's a nice place. After living there for four years, I described it as a "great big small town" Being near USC, Five Points, and Downtown is the place to be, and that only leaves one option- Shandon. |

Slowride - post your question on SCBR (South Carolina Buell Riders) in Storm Fronts. Maybe they can give you some insight. Best of luck on the decision! |

spent 8 weeks at Ft. Jackson from Jun to Aug back in 74. boys were droppin like flies in the heat and humidity on every forced march. Carolina Motorsports Park is not far from there and the smokies are also an easy ride. i always look for the country side outside the city for living areas. good luck! tim |

There's a good hot dog place near the Harley shop. Or was, haven't been there in a year or so. That's all I got. |

More info- there's a decent Buell dealer (Thundertower) ~10 miles east of town on I-20. There's a Flying Saucer downtown with 100 and some odd beers on tap with USC co-eds in tiny plaid mini-skirts waiting tables. Columbia's ~100 miles from the upstate and good twisties and ~100 miles from Charleston and ~150 miles from Myrtle Beach if you like the ocean. |

Thanks for all the input... I like Flying Saucers Neal, No definite plans right at the moment. I'm a Program/Project Manager and the market is HOT right now. BCBS is throwing down some heavy money to recruit in some top tier talent, thus my recent offer. If it was a go, I most likely would be on the job site around 10/11 or just in time to do a weekend run up from Columbia for Buelltoberfest. |
