I don't know how I did it... Changing the clutch cable on my 9S, I dropped the little cable end thingy into the side case. AAAAAHHHHH I'll never get that out!! But I had to try anyway so I grabbed a piece of wire that was in my tool tray. It already had a hook end so I curved it a little and went in. I fished around and found the piece, trying to rake it back up it got hung up. So I wriggled and jiggled it until I got it un-stuck and it came out of there JUST LIKE THIS!! I couldn't have done that on purpose in a hundred years. It was indeed a miracle.

I held it up sideways and shook it at first, but all that extra lube came out on me. So then I tried the wire. That's what she said! |

Whatever, just wheelie back upside down, remove the gas cap and the bolt should come out. Or just drain the gas and remove the gas tank, shouldn't be that hard on a tuber. Just don't drop stuff in your xb tank/ frame, that could be a chore. |

Bob said to get a magnet to use, which a friend of mine has... so he can do a little 'fishing' after work tomorrow... |

Yeah one of those telescoping magnets should work, but I think the wheelie all the way over would be more fun. |

Just use Sifo's etch-a-sketch solution. Pick it up and shake it! So I wriggled and jiggled it until I got it un-stuck I forgot to mention the cursing that went with it. |

Magnets work real well too (as long as what you dropped is ferrous). I learned that when torquing a head with an allen bit on a car and the bit fell down through an oil journal to the pan. Going in through the drain hole saved me lifting the engine and removing the pan. |

How do you drop a bolt into the gas tank in the first place? |

ya know, that little cable-end pivot piece IS ferrous, so you CAN get it out with a magnet. ... for next time |

86129squids... I saw that when he did it and all I have to say is that dude has HUGE F-ING Cast Iron Titanium coated Balls. I really even surprised he can get them into his pants. |

Just for clarification. I thought of the magnet solution first. But the only magnet I have is the big 4" triangle for holding pieces to weld. And I didn't want to scratch up the case trying to drag it up from under the clutch. More reality... I was too disgusted to get up off the floor to look for a magnet and the wire was lying right there. |

Magnet didn't work for me. It just kept sticking to the clutch basket. I got it out with my fingers in the end. Edit: It's a lot easier to follow the manual. (Message edited by Petebueller on January 07, 2011) |
