In the UK, there is a rather annoying habit of people celebrating birthdays, weddings, anniversaries etc by letting fireworks off. Anyway last night I was looking after my Mum's Jack Russel called Satan, and was having one of those increasingly rare happy moments. Some utter bastard took the opportunity to set off a banger in the street, which caused Satan to jump onto the settee that I was sitting on, skittling a cushion onto the table. Unfortunately the cushion knocked over my glass of wine, which in turn knocked over the nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc that I was enjoying. And as if things could not get any worse the bottle upended itself into my rollie and tobacco tin! If I had found firework boy last night I would have shoved an empty bottle of wine where the sun don't shine. You see why I am in such a bad mood? |

It's gotta be better than ducking under the coffee table 'cause some fool just discharged 5 rounds of 9mm ammunition into the sky to celebrate something here in the USofA. My dogs both go mental whenever there is something to celebrate here. |

Yes, they do! In Phoenix, particularly on the south side, it can sound like a wartime firefight on the fourth of July, and New years eve. there are laws against discharging a firearm in city limits due to the rounds coming back down on peoples heads. (Shannons Law) A girl was killed by random gunfire when a round came down on top of her head one new years eve, while she sat in the backyard, chatting on her cellphone. So yes, there are lots of morons out there that randomly fire into the night sky, because they can... |

Compton California sounds like a war zone on Friday evenings, clear into the morning. |

Froggy: it aint just pistols. Drunk up fools will discharge just about any type & caliber of firearm into the night sky to celebrate a holiday around here. I don't even live anywhere rural! If it wasn't so scary it would be laughable. We don't go out at night on holidays. |

"People seriously do that?" You betcha. I can't think of anywhere I've spent time (except NYC and Chicago) where some roscoe doesn't decide to unload a clip or two (especially Tennessee, most of the Gulf Coast and Saudi Arabia). |

So, basically, Arizona doesn't need a gun control law... it needs a doofus control law. |

Ok, let me try something else. I filled the car up yesterday, and it took just short of 20 gallons, about 90 litres. It cost me £110, which would equate to about $150. |

Simon, Our fuel right now is $2.47/gal, I hope ours doesn't get taxed as high as yours is. Your money symbol is for the English pound? I couldn't remember if you were using the Euro or not. I could see how it would be handy to have a common currency there but I've also heard that it isn't working out as well as hoped. |

Zap - let me help you with your pain. Working in Saudi a year or so ago. Gas (and not that 89 octane crap!) was about $0.24 per liter, or about a buck a gallon. I mentioned the good deal to one of my local guys: he just shrugged and asked "why so much in the U.S.?" |

There are tons of idiots who shot into the sky. What goes up...must come down! There was a local 1st grader who was killed a couple years ago because some idiot decided to shot his 9 in the air a couple times to scare someone. One bullet is all it took, from some dumb shit trying to play cool. |
