well it finally happened to me too cager got me I was doing about 55 on the highway coming to a stop behind the car 1.5 car lengths ahead when a pacifica decided that she wanted to occupy that space, she swerved in front of me and stood on the brakes. I responded by doing the same, I had nowhere to swerve to to get around her, I pulled the back tire WAY in the air and as it got high enough that I figured I was going to ENDO I lifted gently off the front brake, as I did that my front tire struck her back bumper and down I went back gtire swinging right through the air, so all that stopping didnt do enough but got me down to about 35 or so for the impact. she panicked and drove off after leaving me in the street but 3 guys helped me get the bike off the road one of them not only waited to be a witness for the police but also let me put my bike in his truck and he drove me home the driver of the SUV called her husband after the antecedent and he told her to get off at the next exit and call the police, she did and returned at request of Michigan state police. she was issued a ticket for causing the accident but let off with a severe warning about driving off. she was very shook up and apologetic to me, I hold no ill will to her. she was not the devil she was very scared and very sorry and dearly in tears when she saw me sitting on the ground next to my bike. I am ok, the gear did its job very well. helmet is toast my forearm armor took a good rash as did my leg armor and my icon armor vest shows little damage. my right boot is very scraped up and my left heel hurts but no signs of abrasion. my gloves look untouched the one part of my shoulder between the elbow armor and the vest has a little rash on it my jeans are ruined and so is the tee shirt I wear over my vest. the bike could be worse the frame puck did its job very well and still looks decent, I'll still replace it if I can find a set the axle sliders also took a ton of wear but saved the swing arm and forks my carbon fiber scoop is cracked and scraped but my headers were not touched my clubman bar is toast as are my bar end mirrors I broke my tail piece (formerly cheese grater) and one blinker crg brake lever is bent beyond repair all in all I am very grateful and still smiling because I didn't go to ER and am home with my family tonight alive and in one piece thanks largely to all my gear |

Wilson LOL now I need to sell them more than ever! my bike needs parts! ill get pics of the bike up tomorrow, its not that bad to be honest. Videoninja thanks, I am very glad as well, in all honesty I don't really feel bitter at all, I am very grateful that I could come home and hug my kids tonight. the bike will go back together as I can afford it and it will be all good when "betty nuggs" gets back on the road, that will be a happy day indeed. |

Glad you are gonna be ok! Good to hear she came back. I would at least go to my dr for a check up. Her insurance should cover that as well as fix your bike. Good luck with all of that stuff. |

I am very happy you are ok. We lost a very good guy here in Texas today due to a cager that did not heed the traffic regulation. I'm glad you were able to escape this accident without injury. Be Safe, Bart |

Happy to hear your okay! Gear did it's job. If she was given a ticket for causing the accident, then her insurance should be paying out correct? |

Glad you're ok bud, another proof that the gear works. Go see the doc then the insurance. You've witnesses that it's her fault & the police wrote her up for it, she has no leg to stand on from an insurance perspective. Make sure that the loss adjuster knows what he's looking at too, an irreplaceable piece of history. |

wow! Glad to hear you came away fairly unscathed. We all play a game of roulette with drivers. I've been bitten twice in my 30 years with cagers, and once due to road conditions (last year) which caused a boatload of damage to the bike, but very little to me thanks to protective gear. Gear works, I don't care what anybody else says. Glad you're OK! Wayne |

Glad to hear you're okay - you're a better man than I, as I would have let this woman know what I thought of her. If someone makes a bonehead move that puts me in danger, I don't give a rat's behind how sorry they are. Got a severe warming for leaving the scene? I read that as, "was not punished for leaving the scene". Heal up! |

Damn man! I'm sorry to hear about your accident! But I'm very glad your okay! I know people get scared and think it's better to flee the scene, but there is NO reason she should not have at least received a ticket for leaving! No reason!! That's what pissed me off! The US judicial System is F'd up! Everything from a well deserved and needed ticket as in this case... To the death penalty! Okay... Of my horse! Again, I'm glad your okay!!!! Bike gonna be back up and running soon. |

We lost a very good guy here in Texas today due to a cager that did not heed the traffic regulation. Bart I am so sorry for your loss If she was given a ticket for causing the accident, then her insurance should be paying out correct? whisperstealth Unfortunately no, for some reason Michigan is turning on bikers (they are now putting up cable briers(read:human chees-grater) and laying tar-rock down that greately resembles kitty-litter all over the roads and tons on the shoulders). now that rule of fault only applies to cars, not bikes, I can only go after her or her insurance for medical. Make sure that the loss adjuster knows what he's looking at too, an irreplaceable piece of history. Mr Grumpy funny you should say that but when I called in the claim the woman on the phone is a blast rider they are thinking it will be total loss but because my bike is an 03 I wont be changing titles to a salvage at all (not that I ever plan on selling my buell anyway) Good on-ya, riding the brakes down and holding such attitude/outlook. Best wishes thanks Aptbldr I wish I could have shut her down a bit more or could have seen her coming over but I was watching my mirror to make sure I wasn't rear-ended (ironic right? LOL) one of my friends told me "you must have your brain rattled loose because I would have been PISSED" I figure there isn't much reason in getting mad about it, I am very sad about my bike, but she will go back together just fine I imagine. I have had much worse injuries at other times so I know I will fare well on this one. and as far as the woman driving off, she was scared, was it the wrong thing to do? yes, but I forgive her for it. if you need anything let me know. i will do what i can for ya. thanks Gary I may take you up on that how has the band been doing? still anxious to hear some more from you guys and get a disk when you have some more. I had a similar incident happen to me about 2 years ago I recon on my M2 but was not near as bad as yours seems to be though I did bend my forks back and snap the front fender in half. man I hope my forks are ok, I just put those on there with very hard to find buell race springs, I had just about gotten everything dialed in perfect too We all play a game of roulette with drivers. I've been bitten twice in my 30 years with cagers, and once due to road conditions (last year) which caused a boatload of damage to the bike, but very little to me thanks to protective gear. Gear works, I don't care what anybody else says. ; ) Wbrisett glad you were ok, how is the bike now? and I agree 110% on the gear, I am very glad I had it on, I would have broken my head and elbow and had much more rash had I not been wearing gear. Glad to hear you're okay - you're a better man than I, as I would have let this woman know what I thought of her. If someone makes a bonehead move that puts me in danger, I don't give a rat's behind how sorry they are. Got a severe warming for leaving the scene? I read that as, "was not punished for leaving the scene". to be honest I forgive her for both, if I get angry it will only make getting my bike back together harder. Again, I'm glad your okay!!!! Bike gonna be back up and running soon. thanks Rob I sure hope the bike will be up again soon, though my wreck may change the time line for my new custom light from you but maybe for the better her insurance doesn't cover me, somehow mine as a 1,000 deductible but my accessory coverage is 6,000 with zero deductible and with mainly aftermarket broken I may be in the clear with money to buy all my parts again. |
