Whitby This Week: The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called to investigate an accident that left a motorcycle passenger dead on Highway 401 in Whitby late Friday evening. Around 11:39 p.m. a Durham police officer driving an unmarked car signalled the driver to pullover and stop. Instead, the motorcyclist accelerated causing the passenger to fall off the bike. The passenger was then hit by one or more vehicles also travelling westbound on the highway. Neither the driver nor other vehicles involved in the accident remained at the scene of the incident. The unidentified passenger was pronounced dead on scene. Officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Highway Safety Division's Whitby detachment are investigating along with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). |

This is effed up on so many levels. But, for the record, I wouldn't stop for an umarked car, either - any jackhole crazy murdering rapist can buy a couple lights to put in the grill. |

Xl1200r, not sure if you know but the NY state police to not do traffic stops with unmarked cars for that reason now. (But they still have them for other purposes) You are right, this is going to get ugly. |

So the pillion fell off the bike, and the rider didn't stop. Then the pillion was hit by one or more cars traveling in the same direction, who also did not stop. Wow, those are some model citizens there. |

Yuck. What's messed up is that the rider of the motorcycle didn't stop. Was this a girlfriend, wife, baby brother or sister? To have such little regard for life. |

After all the crime from people using look a like unmarked cars down in Florida targeting rental cars most police departments stopped using unmarked cars for all normal daily patrol duties. Not here in Pinellas County. Sheriff's department has Ram pickups, Dodge Magnas and Chargers especially for traffic enforcement. |
