I normally dont't like to bitch aloud cause all it does is make me look like a bitcher but this I consider speaking out about worthwhile. Ever since I bought my XB12 a year and a half ago, I would ratio the comments I've received bad:good would be 4:1. Recently they've been picking up on the bad side. It could just be all the obnoxious UNL kiddies with their I4's and extended swingarms and cheesy L.E.D. lights hidden throughout, but I'm always being told Buells suck and that's why they went belly up. First off, they didn't go belly up, it was the big whigs at HD that decided to let Buell go. Second off, if they suck so bad how come I have yet to lose a drag from light to light to a metric? Another thing that rubs me the wrong way is that I can't walk in to our StarCity Motorsports shop without receiving funny looks or the occasional "hey, that weirdo rides a Buell, can you believe that?" And if I'm right it even seems as if Honda stole Buells idea of an underbody exhaust on their new bikes since Buell is no more. Somebody seriously needs to write one fig bucking article in a major bike magazine about how they were the trinity of technology, how they were so radically engineered and designed. If you ask me, I hold my Buell high. It's sweet, fast, has crazy looks, is one of a kind, handles like you're a part of the bike, and sounds like a beast. What is it that makes people think down on them so much? Is it cause they don't have one? Or are there really people who despise these machines? Has anyone else taken flak from others cause of theirs? |

Anyone riding a GSXR is immediately suspect until proven otherwise in my book. Same for folks with Rolexes. Don't worry about the comments. |

"You need to hang out with a different crowd." +1 You will find that motorcyclists who are TRUE enthusiasts can love just about anything on any motorcycle. I don't HATE HD motorcycles anymore than I HATE seeing a Ducati, Busa or Triumph just because it's not what I ride. All motorcycles are "cool" to me. I may not like one of two of the manufactures at a corporate level, but I think each motorcycle has it's own "niche" in the world. People who have no idea what they are talking about are always the first people to say something totally out of line or out of touch with reality and with NO FACTS to back it up. I have been asked numerous times to join a certain local motorcycle club because they wanted to get some riders in to teach everyone how to "drag knee" and "look cool" on the county roads. I've never had any interest in doing so because I try and keep that reserved for a track...which none of them seem to want to ever go to to begin with. Knowledge, unfortunately isn't "cool" to everyone. I try to stick with like minded folks who have their own passions and hobbies that I also find interesting. Just remember... it's lonely being at the top of the food chain, looking down at the masses as they scuffle amongst each other trying to "share" ideas and concepts that are only important for the moment to prove a point in their own little ego war. ^ That comment isn't an elitist comment, or in anyway meant to proclaim Buell as the almighty motorcycle of the universe. Just think about it from an enthusiasts point of view and realize that sometimes you have to separate yourself from the pissing contests and just go ride and be happy. If you bought a Buell for acceptance...well, you might want to get something else. |

Most of the comments I get are actually pretty positive. My cruiser friends don't get why I'd want a bike that wasn't a cruiser, but they keep negative comments to themselves for the most part. |

I used to get those comments too. All it did was endear me closer to the brand and what it stands for. You are in an elite group, be proud of that. |

Good way to put it Geforce. But no, I didn't buy my lightning for acceptance. I bought it because it was totally different than anything else out there, and being a loner I didn't want something everyone else had. Also, because I've heard Sportster engines were some of the toughest out there and I didn't want a cruiser after riding a Honda Shadow. So Buell pretty much fit my bill exactly. I'm gonna take advantage of this weather and go ride, shove it in their metric faces that some can defy the norm. Who knows, maybe I'll spot one out of the whole half a dozen Buells here in Lincoln. |

That is the fun part... when you are riding and DO pass a Bueller and then chase them down just to say "Hi. Nice bike!" As long as YOU are happy with what you ride, nothing else matters and neither do their opinions. At the end of the day, it is still just an opinion. Just keep rolling around in the facts and enjoy the machine and celebrate the Americans who built it. Be safe! |

Except for the occasional idiot wearing a wife beater, I get very positive feedback about my bike. Most of the guys I ride with ride "other" brands...and everything is cool...rode with a group of guys riding ZX-10s on Saturday. I stopped at a convenience store to have a cup of coffee early in the morning....they rode up...we talked a bit about our bikes and such and was invited to ride along...nice guys, we rode pretty hard without getting insane about it. When we stopped for fuel and food...there was a lot of talk about how good my bike sounded at full song and how well it handled.... I ride with another group from time to time that is mostly Ducs...no problems there either. Guess it's the people...true enthusiasts love all bikes for what they are...I saw a really sweet RZ350 the other day....I want one of those...badly....and the Guzzi cafe bike...There is a TZR250 that is titled and plated for sale in Miami...they want stupid money for it....but I get wood thinking of a street going TZ.... |

I used to get a lot of crap for riding a Blast, but now I get a lot of sympathy from sportbikers for the way Harley killed Buell. It seems that Buell really did earn cred among the racer wannabees, and it has spilled over to the B-last. Most of them also know that I ride every day, often in the rain and I taught half of them in MSF classes. |

>>>>You need to hang out with a different crowd. That's an accurate statement. I bought my first Buell about 22 years ago and . . . . over the course of riding Buells in 44 states . . have pretty well heard them all. My personal experience is that the roughly 4,000 Buell owners I've met in personal have never failed to amaze me. I've been fortunate enough to go places, meet people and experience things that, to this day, continue to amaze me. I also have, and this is just a personal quirk of mine, a natural distrust of whiners who constantly criticize what they don't understand. I'm not sure why folks ride Urals . . . but overtime I meet someone who does I listen closely and without fail my world expands with each encounter. Make your breaks. Make your life. Make your world. Make your friends. You;ve got a limited number of days stirring dust on this Mothership . . strive to spend of few of them whining as possible. Court P.S. - I bought my Rolex (never been off my wrist) the same year I bought my first Buell. It's got parts missing, looks like it's been drug behind a piece of construction equipment (which is has), is missing the bezel and . . s they say . . . "keeps on ticking". |

I've been surprised by the number of HD riders that have told me how bad they feel about how Buell got dumped by HD. Of course I don't show them any attitude about riding an HD either. It's just not my choice of bike style right now. If I did make that move again it would probably be a Victory though. HD has left a very bad aftertaste the I think will linger for many years. |

I took the rear wheel from my Uly and the tire I bought off Ebay to the local Triumph dealer to get it mounted. He asked me what kind of bike it was and while I am saying Buell he is writing H-a-r-l-ey and puts Buell in as the model/type. Then when he says "thats a crotch rocket with the Harley engine?" I say "no it is a Ulysses which is an adventure touring bike like a dual sport", to which he replies, when you're ready to "move up" you should take one of our Tigers for a ride. I love my bike, the more haters, the better...it's the stupidity/ignorance that sometimes bugs me. |

I think knowledgeable riders know the Buell and are not afraid to ask you about it in a positive way. Them others are probly just ignert. (half the population is below average) |

One of the great things about being a self-centred egotist is that criticism has nil effect. 'Are you confusing me with someone who cares what you think????' :-) |

If I spent all the time listening to what others thought of me, and what I should do with my life.... well hell I would be in office. Lord knows they love them some polls, more over than action. You can talk about me all you want, but when you finally close your mouth, you will realize that I dont give a F, and left twenty minutes ago. |

When someone calls my 1125r "slow" or "why didnt you just buy a harley?" I always ask them how theyd like to race, drag strip, road race... What's your choice of embarrassment? Ill show you just what this baby can do... Most people have good comments about it though. |

Best line yet for me, was "you don't look like a Buell rider" I asked what one looks like...."younger". I love the look on a LEO's face when I take off the helmet and the silver hair comes out. Police ALWAYS follow me with their eyes and heads while I'm in view. ( maybe a reactor yellow Cyclone is visually loud? ) I park between the Hogs and the crotch rockets at the burger joint. Get good attitude from both. But I admire, and compliment, a good bike no matter the brand. I don't have an I-Phone either, THAT I catch crap for. |

Anyone riding a GSXR is immediately suspect until proven otherwise in my book. I visit a GSXR forum, and most of them are quite open about other bikes, and are motorcyclists, not squids. The non-gear wearing, lowered suspension squids that wander in get ridiculed so much they eventually leave. |
