For those of you that have been following the problems I have been having with my blast since it died @ Homecoming. You should be glad to know that she is now running. It only took a couple months several new gaskets, 2 pistons and cylinders(yes 2), new oil pump drive gear, countless quarts of oil, a couple spark plugs (never get them from autozone trust me on that one.), more gaskets, a handful of oil filters, and a driveshaft key. |

Didn't know the blast required 2 pistons??? Glad to hear it's back running. Sounds like there's a story in there... |

Ouch! I read the story of HC and the trip home. It really sounds like a lot of it sucked up to that point. Hope you met enough good folks to make it worth while though. I hate to sound like I'm enjoying your misery, but I have found it to be more enjoyable when it isn't mine. Care to share the story? Honestly, I would hope that you might help someone else from the same trials and tribulations... Perhaps myself. |

Where to begin........I bought the blast as my first bike just in time for homecoming. I work with "Barker" so I had to get a Buell it would just be wrong if I didn't. I figured the blast would be a good place to start. I drove about 5 hrs to pic up the blast from a craigslist ad. I was told it was in good order and ran fine......it didn't. I bought it anyway at a heavily discounted price. Brought it back to nashville and Barker and I got it going after some general maintenance.....Onward to homecoming we went. After 80 miles it died on the interstate. After several drinks and about a third of the BadWeb community putting in their 2 cents the bike still wouldn't start. To make a long story not quite as long I got the bike home and discovered the original piston was chipped....badly....I replaced said piston with a 515 piston and cylinder. It ran like a scalded dog for 14 miles and then it died just like before. I was pissed and didnt touch it for a week or so then I tore into it and found the new piston was chipped just like before. I rushed the job and the timing was WAY off. So I ordered a new kit from NRHS which they helped me out with even though it wasn't their fault, but it took a little over a week to get it. Once i got the new kit installed, Barker took it out for a little break in ride and it died AGAIN after about 10 miles. That is when I posted it in the classifieds. After a week or so of cussing I calmed down and started taking it apart. After taking the rocker box cover off I saw that the pushrods were not moving so I pulled cam cover off and discovered the key on the driveshaft sheared so it wasnt turning the cams. Ordered new key installed and now she runs like a top. I left out a lot of the little BS that was encountered and about the autozone plug I didnt have the cross ref on me so i just took what they had listed in their computer. We it was wrong and hit the piston and bent the arm so it wouldn't spark. \endstory |
