I think I'm going to do a ride out to Montauk (anyone is welcome who'd like to come) either Saturday or Sunday and would like to take the Bridgeport/Port Jefferson ferry. Seeing as how I don't take up much room, would I be okay just doing standby? Or should I buy tickets in advance? I really don't know what time I'd be getting to the ferry so I'd like to avoid buying advance if I can. Also not sure how busy things are on the weekends... Can anyone recommend a lunch stop out on the end of the island (or care to meet out there or along the way)? |

Bridgeport/Port Jefferson does NOT require a reservation. However, the New London/Orient Ferry lately has adopted a "Reservation Policy" that is absolute stupidity. Cliff's Elbow Room in Riverhead is FAMOUS for their marinated steaks. I haven't gotten out that way yet but one day... Plenty of places to eat in Port Jefferson too... as long as you avoid the places owned by that motorcycle-hating NAZI George Wallis (you'll recognize his properties... they have a big "No Motorcycles Allowed" sign in the parking lot). If you're heading out to Montauk you might hit a lot of Hamptons traffic. I prefer the North Fork and the Long Island Winery region myself. Less crowded and nicer roads. Buy a home made pie from Briermiere's to take home. |

"Fish sticks for everyone!" Just kidding, I love hockey and couldn't resist. Enjoy the ride. |
